I think Coyotes fans will be happy walking out of the SCSC with a sweep on Saturday afternoon. The men have to make sure they don't give back the road win by losing one at home to even it out. The Yotes already righted a wrong when they got revenge on Omaha and now it is time to do so with IUPUI which was one of the more lethargic performances last year. The big men just need to hold their own and allow the smaller studs to do their thing. If the Coyotes can duplicate the energy of the last home game this will undoubtedly be a victory. Gonna go USD 74-61 with another good defensive effort.

Can someone help me out? Is this the jackhole coach that did something obnoxious last year that gave everyone resolve to always root against him?

Can someone help me out? Is this the jackhole coach that did something obnoxious last year that gave everyone resolve to always root against him? I believe so. The coach was a bit too confident and exuberant after a hard fought game. It may have been the game at Ft Wayne. He may have been dancing on the table or talking some trash. It was like he had not won a game before. It could be considered to be unsportsman like or more likely a bit immature. It could have drawn a flag in football for celebration rules. He might be waiting to get behind a door now before he celebrates in that manner. It was definitely not normal protocol for a winning coach.

That's right - it gave me an reason to actively root against a team I otherwise would not even notice. It was at Ft. Wayne too, if I remember right - jumped on the scorer's table. Clown.

After being down by 7 in the 2nd half the Coyotes go on a 22-4 run to surge past IUPUI 85-74! Great full court press and super active D keyed the surge and win. A great win to follow up the Denver road win!!

That was a fun game. 3-1 in SL, with 2 home games this week against the two conference favorites. Hope the 3 bigs continue to improve (Sparks kind of got hosed by that short ref in this game).

My man Carlton with another huge day! Hands down my favorite player on this team. Not a guy who usually reaches double digits but he had a career high with 19 points, plus 8 rebounds and 1 incredible block to spark our 22-4 run that won the game.
Perhaps the most promising individual performance of the day was Tyler Hagedoorn. Coming into the day with a total of 22 minutes on the season, he played 19 minutes and held his own as our 5 for most of the game. Very big performance by Hagedoorn in the absence of Flack and Sparks. We absolutely need Sparks to play more than 14 minutes a game, but it seemed the refs were looking to call some BS foul on Sparks every time he came into the game.
Very promising that we can beat a team by 11 when the opponent is shooting 47% from the field and 50% from 3. Our guys took good shots though and we finished shooting 57%. No selfish play in this victory.
Garbage free throw shooting showed itself again though. Anything below 70% just isn't acceptable. I do not understand why our team is having such a hard time with free throws - especially at home. This is bound to come back and bite us.

Big games coming up this coming week. If we can take care of business at home against IPFW and NDSU we are going to have 1st place to our own. If we can pull off those wins it seems likely that we will be in 1st place through the first half of SL play, and would begin the second half of SL play at the same time that Flack is projected to be back (a full 4 weeks of recovery would put his return at Feb 1, the first game of our 2nd half). No small feat to win these games, but we haven't failed to protect our home floor yet.
Another Saturday of Summit League play and I am convinced that with Flack we would have been downright guaranteed a top 3 finish, with a shot at 1st or 2nd. There appears to be a significant dropoff after IPFW, NDSU, and USD this year. IPFW and NDSU have looked a likely 1-2 through non-conference, and I figured we would be challenged by Denver, UNO, and IUPUI for that 3rd spot - but already we have shown to be on a higher level than those teams. WIU has really come out of nowhere with their 3-1 start but I seriously doubt that continues. SDSU and ORU look like garbage. That leaves the conference to IPFW, NDSU, and USD. With Flack's injury I am now quite thankful that we are getting IPFW and NDSU at home on the front half of our schedule.
Big opportunities this week!
Go Yotes!

Yesterday's game was very fun to be at. The crowd although small was so good especially when the Coyotes needed them down the stretch. Very proud of the effort for the entire game. The little things that are hard to control just didn't go the Yotes way until the last 7:00. Smith was very upset at many of the calls in the first half and was riding the refs as hard as I have ever seen him ride them. Hurst is a stud when it comes to getting some of the rebounds that he gets. At big moments of the game he goes way up in the air to out battle guys for boards. He can pretty much out jump anyone else on the court. When he catches the ball after he has it in his hands he usually takes a lot of contact as he is coming back to the court. Dickerson may not do everything great all the time but I love his quickness to the basket. I don't remember many Summit guards that get to the rim as quickly as he does. The whole team seems so good at getting to the rim. Mooney is another that is very quick getting to the rim and is often creative with how he gets there. He also finishes well. Hagedorn played some important minutes and ones that will be valuable going forward. Hope he continues what he did on Saturday.
IMHO this team has upped it's level since the Summit League started. They are convincing me that they are for real as long as they continue to play like they have during the past 4 games. The consistency factor has improved quite a bit as well.

I think missing Flack will hurt most in the road games. But if he can get healthy and stay healthy then this stretch might be good for them to learn how to play without him.

But if, and this could be a big if, Flack returns within the given 3-4 week time line then we will have just 1 road game without him, at the last winless SL in ORU. If we can protect our home court and Flack returns on time, we might not miss him at all (aside from that state game we should have won handily). We might even be better off due to his absence if guys like Sparks, Hagedoorn, and Jech take steps forward.

We will need more help from the home crowd than what we have had to this point in order to win these next two home games. The students have been on break, hopefully that is the only reason the crowd has been lacking in conference play so far. The fans that we did have, came to life late in the IUPUI game and it made a big difference. The new arena can get loud, but we need to get some more fans there, and we need a strong showing from the students as they bring the majority of the noise. To have any chance to win the conference we have to win our home games, and the two toughest home games we will have is our next two. We need to create a true home court advantage. IPFW and NDSU are probably considered the favorites to win the conference. I think it would be too early to drop Denver and IUPUI out of consideration. IUPUI has had two close road losses at two of the best teams in the conference. The final score was not indicative of how close our game was with them.
