Our conference needs to get a few more NCAA Tourney wins before thinking about enticing some MVC schools.

Yeah. I did say a decade or two. 20 years is a long time.

I think everyone in the SL & MVFC should be thrilled this is finally happening - ESPECIALLY all the Dakota schools. No doubt MVFC is up right now (SL has maybe plateaued for a moment) but these things are cyclical, so stop worrying about playoff seeding. There is a different thread about traditions, and the reality that the 2-State/U's, 2-U's, and 2-State's have been one of the best - if not THE best - traditions for all 4 schools. Program ups and downs happen, but long, strong, geographical rivalries keep rolling.

Sounds like they will be going back to old days of the NCC when schools had travel partners, ie (USD/north school, UND/NDSU, Oral Roberts/Denver, Omaha/Western Ill, Ft Wayne/IUPUI, etc). This also means they will be going back to schedules of Thursday/Saturday games. I always liked that back in the NCC days.
No buyout for UND to leave Big Sky, but they have to pay the SL $250K and the MVFC $300K to buy in.

Oh my - I had some time to kill so I thought I would see what the geniuses over at AGS were saying about this announcement. As it relates to Yotes fans, just know that USD and UND are both awful at football, but it is wildly unfair that XDSU or UNI has to play them, because they are too good, and they would rather play Ill St. or YSU. It is an amazing exercise in contradictions and pettiness over something for which no scheduling details are available.

That's what you get for sticking your head into that forum. Lot of unintelligent posters.

With the conference expanding does anyone expect to see a change in the format of the SL tournament? I believe that part of the beauty of college basketball is that nearly every single team is still in the running for the national championship heading into their conference tournaments. I'd like to see our tournament expand to 10 teams and have a play-in round for the 7-10 seeds.

Personally, I'd rather see it stay at 8, because having a winless team or one-loss team in the tournament basically means that the regular season means very little.

The SL could have done a 8 vs. 9 play-in game the past couple years, but didn't. Anyone have any insights as to why? Logistics and travel cost for the winner would probably be a consideration. Not to mention that if you are at the bottom, you are not exactly having a good/fun season that you want to extend.

Tom Douple was a guest on one of the Sioux Falls sports radio talk shows the day of the UND announcement. The hosts asked 2 or 3 times about play in games and Mr. Douple said that he liked the current format of the tournament. I would not be expecting a 10 team tournament with play in games.

Several years ago when the Summit League had 10 eligible teams, the tournament only included 8 teams. That was the case the first three years the tournament was in Sioux Falls. I expect it to stay that way into the future as Tom Douple indicated.

I'm of the mindset that the threat of two teams missing the SLT every year should provide ample incentive to improve or get left at home and will likely help elevate overall RPI and quality of play across the League.
