USD opens the Summit League Tournament on Saturday at 6 against Western Illinois. Yotes took the season series, winning by 7 at home (without Flack) and 11 on the road. USD has won 6 in a row, while WIU has lost 4 in a row (two coming in OT). WIU is the 8 seed for the 2nd time in 3 years, losing by 37 in the first round in 2015 and left out of the field in 2016. This should be a good tuneup and opportunity for our new guys to get a feel for the facility before things heat up on Monday. USD goes to Sioux Falls as the hottest team in the field and clear favorite, despite only ever having won a single game in the SL tourney. The latest Bracketology has us at the 15 seed playing Baylor: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology . Should be a fun tournament! Go Yotes!

According to that bracketology it looks like South Dakota and Gonzaga will end up having a rematch in what is supposed to be Glendale,AZ (or will they if Gonzaga can get that far) on April 3rd. The Men will beat the Women from last year by one day in having the latest basketball game played in school history. You know what they say it's hard for anyone to beat a good team two times in a row and this time Gonzaga won't have home court advantage. The Coyotes will only have to get through Baylor, South Carolina, UCLA, North Carolina and Villanova to get there. Because of the overwhelming support from Coyote fans they will actually, in a last second historic move, relocate the final 4 to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center because of the committee not wanting to give Gonzaga a second game with the Coyotes without them having to repay the favor of playing a home game they had against them earlier. Villanova, Kansas and Gonzaga fans will be allotted the first three rows behind their players benches. All other seats will of course be sold to Coyote fans first.

With the obvious caveat that you never know how a week off will affect a team that is hot, my opinion is that the Yotes are the best team in the field AND they at the hottest team. Covington could go off, but it is a good match up for us, as Hurst can follow him around all night to neutralize him.
A 'dangerous' team is a euphemism for 'not a great team, but could pull an upset', which applies to some teams, but the Yotes deserve the 'best team' label, and can survive an off-night from a star or two.

If its exclusive we can just go across the street to BW3s.

Only way you'll get turned away is if you're wearing the wrong school's apparel. Have some apps and a few drinks before and after the game with your fellow Yotes.

My best friend and I will have a couple of our NDSU friends with us, though, hopefully that won't be too much of a problem

I am not a USD Alum but have been a Howling Pack member for a number of years.... I can honestly say that I feel as if I get more out of it than I put into it. It's a great investment and as Cousin Eddie stated, you can join for as little as $100 per year.

Time to worry about actual basketball. Here are some additional stats, etc.:
WIU: 8-19 (5-11); Gone to OT in 2 of last 3 games (NDSU and IPFW); Covington ranks in the top 20 in SL history for points and 3-pointers, and had 35 points in their last game; have lost 10 of last 12
Yotes: 21-10 (12-4); Have won 6 in a row and 8 of last 9, including winning by 11 at WIU last Wednesday; averaging 90.8 pts/game in past 5 games; giving up 81.8 pts/game in the same timeframe (gulp)
To WIU's credit, they went to 2 OT's in the past couple weeks, and against the Yotes they kept it close when it was looking like it could be a blowout. That shows they are playing hard even though they could have mailed it in. And of course, there is always the possibility that Covington gets hot and goes nuts.
The Yotes have a legitimate lack of SLT experience coming in to the tourney. That likely is only an issue against a team with a ton of SLT experience, which appear to be WIU (sort of) and NDSU or UNO who are on the other side of the bracket. If SLT experience is a real thing, this game is likely where it would show up, so the Yotes need to come out focused.

WIU does have two guys that can really light it up. I believe when they lost to NDSU they were shooting 11-13 on threes late in the second half. We will still need to play very well to win this one. Opened as 10 point favorites. Hoping for a solid home crowd for us.
Also, NDSU favored by 4 in the other game. Have a feeling all games but our will have a line comparable to that. Should be an exciting first round.

Well, game day. I will be in attendance for this one. Yotes should take care of business, but WIU has some players who can get hot and anyone can win in this league.

Many people that are neutral fans or media people underestimate the impact the Coyote fans have on these games. What sticks out to me is the game vs IPFW in the 4 vs 5 matchup 2 years ago. The Coyote fans were very loud in that game and the team kind of road the wave of the crowd to a big first half lead that the Mastadons were never able to recover from. That was a game where the Yotes at best were at en even talent level to IPFW that day. As long as Yote fans show up and cheer loudly it will help a lot. If SDSU is the matchup on Monday sure the Jacks will have their 5 or 6 thousand in attendance but people under estimate that the Coyotes will have 2 or 3 thousand of their own fans there which greatly reduces the advantage that SDSU has.
Of course anything could happen and I may be wrong but I think the Yotes handle WIU the easiest today that they have handled them all year.
