I'll say it. In March the goal is just to survive and advance.
On to Monday.

Hats off to WIU. That big guy,#52, was a problem on the inside.

Anyone hear anything about Dickerson? I think he was on the bench for most of the second half.

Worst game we've played on the year? 18/21 on free throws in regulation is what kept us alive tonight, an average night at the line and we'd be in the same boat as NDSU right now.
Thought USD had a good showing in the stands tonight. Crowd wasn't active but there was representation. A few empty seats in the lower bowl though, moved to the first row at center court for the 2nd half since no one else was sitting there. Can't believe no one was using those seats.

IMO this was far from the worst game of the year. Almost every road non con game was worse then this one by far. I was proud of the Coyotes. A lot of the little things and the bounces just went Western's way tonight. I thought the Yotes were tight to open but then played ok. They didn't play their best but the first game tourney nerves were on display a bit. Let's be honest though and I was thinking about this when the Leathernecks just wouldn't go away. If the Coyotes would have lost tonight it would be very fair to proclaim that this tourney has not been favorable to the Coyotes men or women. The first two times the ladies were the #1 seed they didn't get through and now the Yote men nearly had a catastrophe happen tonight but I don't care about style points at this time of the year because the only thing that matters is the W at the end of the night. The Bison wished they would have not played their best and won but they didn't play their best and got blown out. We almost had a 8/1 and 7/2 upset in back to back games.
The bottom line is that in post season you can look at two things, defense and guard play. Those two are always important. The Coyotes do both well. They are certainly the best defensive team left and I would be hard pressed to take anyones back court over USD's. In basketball how many times has a national champ or tourney champ or whatever had a very close call where one play goes the wrong way and they are out. It happens constantly in this game.
The fans showed up tonight in person but in spirit it was up and down. The team could have used them more often but in the big moments the fans were great. Great to see so much red. My fear was that there would be more Jacks fans at the Coyote game on a night when they didn't even play but at least that didn't happen. This was the largest contingent at a non SDSU Summit tourney game. The progress from USD fans was nice to see tonight. I would say there were probably 3K Coyote fans. Good step this year with the fan base.

Anyone hear anything about Dickerson? I think he was on the bench for most of the second half. Rewatching the game, Dickerson had three straight possessions around the 10 minute mark where he was really taking things into his own hands. Two drives to the hoop that failed horribly, just no business taking those shots, and then the third he managed to draw a foul on another iffy drive attempt and made his free throws. He wasn't really seen after that. His benching might have been a reminder that we gotta play team basketball.

With Dickerson I do wish he would play a little more under control and maybe not be quite so careless but I can personally live with the aggressive mentality he brings to the game. He just needs to think a bit more and if he can scale back on a few things he can really be a valuable player for the Yotes.

Simpson has usually been the PG on the court late in the 2nd half all year. Both Dickerson and Simpson are great assets on the court. Dickerson is an aggressor while Simpson is more of a game manager. He has the ball in his hands A LOT at the end of games, which is awesome to see in a true freshman
