It looked like Denver was gonna lay down and let the Jacks stomp all over them as they were down 17 but they battled back and are within 7 at halftime. At worst Pioneers you have to make the Jacks work hard tonight.

83-73 Jacks but the game was really not that close. Denver looked like a team that wanted their season to end.

State did a good job on Amigo it looks like (I did not watch). He had a terrible game. He was held to single digits in all 3 games against state. From what I saw tonight he simply couldn't find anything underneath and wound up with shots he really shouldn't have been taking. Guess Daum has his number on defense. Never thought I'd say that.

IPFW & UNO have a chance to redeem this a bit, but today has been a day of ugly, boring basketball. Both women's games and the first men's game were fairly dull. Kind of a disappointing/dull day at the Denny.

UNO takes down IPFW 84-80 in a thriller. UNO trailed by double digits in the 2nd half but came all the way back late to win their first SL tournament game.

So the Coyotes work hard all year long and what is their reward but a matchup with the next hottest team in the league in an environment that will be at best neutral but probably more like a one-third to two-thirds ratio against in the stands. Omaha and IUPUI will be playing in "the other" game. Talk about a fortunate half of the bracket to be in.

I'd argue UNO is at least as "hot" as sdsu, but what you are describing is just a reality of being a team in a one bid league. I love college basketball and especially this time of conference tournaments, so I have seen plenty of top teams in mid-major conferences fall and lose their bid to the NCAA tournament. This year in the Horizon through 6 games the lower seeded team has won 5 times. They have the 4, 6, 9, and 10 seeds (in a 10 team conference) in their semifinals. It's ass backwards, but for mid-majors the regular season is almost irrelevant and all that really matters is a few games in the conference tournament. The only thing keeping the regular season relevant is seeding purposes.

And people wonder why regular season attendance is an issue. None of the games count, unless it is to avoid last place and missing the conference tournament. Up until the SLT started every game USD has played in has been an exhibition game. It's a huge problem for one bid leagues. Sure, everybody loves the Madness at the end, but if a conference wanted to send its true best representative to the NCAA tournament it should award the autobid to the regular season conference champ and not even hold a tournament. I know, it will never happen. But these conference tournaments, and the NCAA tournament, have pretty much rendered the regular season as meaningless and that shows up in weak attendance and interest in college basketball on the whole.

On the issue of regular season champ vs. Tournament champ, I think both arguments have merit. I do believe there is value in the "hot team" going on to the big dance, but on the other hand, a team can just get lucky in a single-elimination situation, too. Which rewards the wrong thing.
The SLT staying at 8 teams is a step in the right direction towards valuing the regular season, IMO.
Personally, I like tournaments that use the series format. It's what you see at the pro level in many sports, and does a good job of reducing the randomness of a single-elimination tournament. In sports like basketball and baseball a series makes the most sense IMHO.
You don't have to go all-out with best-of-seven series' at each round. Just do a best-of-three for at least the championship game. Like in the college world series for baseball. Or do a double-elimination with a loser's bracket. Imagine how last year's SLT Women's championship game would have turned out if it had been a best-of-three? I don't think that Coyotes team gets beat twice.
Just my $0.02 --- tangent over.

Seriously? I know you guys are afraid of playing SDSU but give me a break. Let us go back to 2015, SDSU went in as the hottest team at the end of the season, number 1 seed and we lost to NDSU in the championship game and instead went to the NIT. I don't recall any SDSU fans whining about not getting in, we didn't take care of business. If you are the #1 seed do your job and win the tournament. USD fans need to suck it up and have faith in your team. If you can't beat SDSU, and/or IUPUI/Omaha you don't deserve to be in the NCAA tournament. So the Coyotes work hard all year long and what is their reward but a matchup with the next hottest team in the league in an environment that will be at best neutral but probably more like a one-third to two-thirds ratio against in the stands.
