I'm just still in shock about the capacity. If we're spending tens of millions of dollars we need to be forward thinking and capacity plays a part in that. Eventually we'll be in the G5, or whatever you want to call that level of football, after the P5 and G5 split happens, and it will happen, there will be a restructure. We need to be poised, facility-wise, to be at that level. State is planning ahead, for sure.

We outdraw some teams and they are in zero danger of being demoted. I'd also guess some of the recent teams moving up aren't playing in facilities that outshine our renovation. Plus it seems likely if the P5 G5 split happens that basically any upper tier FCS team will be welcomed into the new "G5".

I like the wrap behind the goal posts. The little details make a difference, and I always though the old faded black on the walls was a bad look. I really hope they do that. Those black curtains were added waaaay before my time, but they are exponentially better than what they were brought in to cover up. I can't find any pics to corroborate my story, but those early photos in the Dome show a horrible yellow-orange foam looking wall instead. It really seemed like they got the roof on the Dome completed and decided the work was done.

I think they are hoping to knock out a wall on the north side eventually and put students there. Probably adds 2-3k capacity.

Knocking the wall out is a possibility if needed, but it is almost cost prohibitive.

I think we would need to win about 7 championships in a row before we would have ticket demand that necessitates tearing down the north wall.

If we ever host a playoff game in freezing temperatures I'm confident the crowds will be larger than teams who host outdoor games.

Like who for instance? Obviously SDSU. I understand that State can’t brag about attendance, but I’m still really surprised about the final capacity with the renovation. 9500 capacity is small with zero room for growth.

I would guess that it's about 2500 more than the Dome currently holds, based on the numbers that have been posted in various articles about seating for next year

Looks like Herbster was on KWSN an hour ago, talking about the dome, and double headers. The podcast will be up tomorrow...

kwsn.com/podcasts/sports-talk-with-kwsn/5093/ad-david-herbster-on-todd-lees-first-season-doubleheaders-new-dc-dakotadome-renovations/Good Herbster Interview. He covers a lot of topics, from double-headers, to Coach Lee, to the new DC hire. He starts talking about the facilities improvements at the 9-minute mark. Unfortunately, the guys at KWSN didn't address the elephant in the room (as I see it) in the Dome capacity. They either let him off the hook, or somehow were unaware of the issue. Surprising. John isn't the type of guy to shy away from a cover-up (see Coach Stig), so I'm guessing he didn't know about it. John did mention the fact that we have had sell-out crowds of 10,000 recently, so maybe that was his way of trolling without running afoul of the station's desire to not embarrass him. Maybe the station warned him when he went after Stig, who knows? If I were a Jacks fan, I'd probably be calling foul. Fair play.

Think about how large the Dome feels, then compare it to other MVFC facilities. There is a ton of exaggeration out there. I can't believe that he publicly stated what the actual seating will be, but the numbers weren't at all surprising.

But John/Kwsn was not part of the Stig cover up. They asked some hard questions, and didn’t just let the story go. John asked several times before the season what the self imposed punishment was. Frankly he upset Stig when he asked him about it in August and refused to answer saying he had already answered these questions. John said he felt Stig should’ve been suspended for the first game. He pressed Sell on whether the DUI had any influence in whether to give Stig a new 5 year contract. So I wouldn’t rope John/Kwsn into not covering Stig’s transgressions.

I thought that was the same point I was making. He (rightly and respectfully) questioned Stig on the DUI. I agreed with him on that. Given John's history of not following the local small-town cover-up media in handling our beloved coaches with kid-gloves, I thought he might question the Dome numbers. He didn't. I was just postulating that maybe the station told him to get in line after he embarrassed Stig. Just guessing.
