My concern is not missing a football season. My concern is the collapse of college athletics due to the lost revenue this year. Stanford has already cut 11 sports including wrestling. Freaking Stanford.
Sure we will mitigate a virus with a less than 1% mortality rate. In the process many of our institutions will be destroyed.

I just got out of a meeting where we were discussing the current status of construction projects in which we are involved. Every project that is out to bid or has just received bids is reporting an increase in construction costs of 30% or greater. Each of them are debating putting off construction projects (unless they are absolutely necessary) for a couple of years until this construction cost bubble eases. After the meeting the thought popped in my head that I am glad the Dome renovation got done when it did because if it had been delayed given the COVID year and how construction costs have skyrocketed it probably never would get done. Herbster was prophetic as I have heard him say that putting off construction is only going to cost more down the road. In this environment exponentially more.
Does anybody know what the project is just south of the SCSC?
The Med School expansion is underway right now as well.

Great point on getting the dome renovations completed before the recent huge price increases.
I believe, but am not 100% positive, that they are adding more parking south of the SCSC

Something I've shouted about since the concept images came out back in like 2014.

I remember talking about this with people when they were resodding the area after construction was finished. The consensus then was to just pave it. Abbott liked his green spaces though which isn't all bad either.

Green spaces make the campus look nice. I wish it was still green though I understand the need for parking. That's an awful lot of concrete in that area though. Tons of parking now.

Yeah, I can see both sides of it too. Green spaces can be fun to tailgate on, too. Like at Iowa State they expand the tailgating into the nearby city park. Softer place for drunks to fall down on. Expands the type of lawn games you can play.... until it gets muddy. The student tailgating south of the SCSC always seemed a little awkward. Too big of a space for the number of students, I think. And you get that "fishtank" affect where everyone is looking in. Ideally we would have paved parking closer to the SCSC and dome, then ring it with green space where the students can "lurk" on the edges. Too bad that private property between the dome and Coyote Village is still private. That would be a great place to provide handicap and priority parking close to the SCSC front door, with some greenspace for student tailgating south of the tennis courts.

Seller asking a ridiculous price now.

Think about all the years he has probably spent without the money he could be getting paid by the university for his land. Eventually you just have to accept the offer.
