One of the things that are really great about sports is that it doesn't matter if you are a player, coach, support person, administrator, fan etc. If you really invest in a program and stick with it, You are able to really enjoy when things work out. I have supported the yotes when they weren't winning and now that they are it is really satisfying. The same thing applies to everything else in life. If you work through the tough times, it makes the good times so much better. I know we haven't reached our goals. Not by a long shot. But I'm going to enjoy this one for a week. It's also nice to see CF is more positive now days. By the way, this turn around started under Joe Glenn. Completely agree. Enduring two winless MVFC campaigns has me ecstatic watching this team announce its arrival to the rest of the MVFC. We are in for some very fun times with Nielson at the helm. Joe Glenn will never get the recognition he deserves for his work here. I won't compare him to Bob, it wouldn't be fair, but Joe laid the foundation that this team is building on.

Joe Glen's foundation is there for sure. On these birds I have been saying all along that the speed and size that Nielsons and his staff have recruited since taking over will be evident. I think there are believers now👍🏽

Awesome win! And an appropriately measured quote in Mick's AL follow-up:
“We have to keep building,” Nielson said. “The conversation in the locker room was ‘How much better can we be next week?’ In a lot of areas we made a leap of improvement from the Drake game to this game. Now we just have to keep making that kind of improvement as we move forward.”
There are certainly no breathers ahead. Every week will be a knife fight, and every win is huge. Ask last year's Western Illinois team that started 5-1 (including a MAC win) and missed the playoffs. Keep up the good work, boys. Beat UND!

I was in Bowling Green for the game, and got there Friday. I was reading the board and wanted to chime in when someone ( I think CF ) wanted my prediction and I believe Yotes said if I didn't pick the Coyotes he would assume I have been hijacked, which was really funny. In all honesty here is what I was going to predict but with an asterisk. I even wrote it down so that when I woke up this morning after getting home ( 3:15 am ) I could accurately tell you. The issue of why I didn't predict anything when you all did was because I was with the team, and I had knowledge that about 6-8 guys had gotten food poisoning or some viral thing, most predominant among the receiving corp. Then you add in Van Roekel wasn't playing from an injury sustained at Drake, and that changed the dynamics all together. I have been told by various coaches that they have "eyes" monitor fan boards on occasion to see if they can pick up any useful information. I wasn't going to be the one that disclosed that information if it held true by game time. The majority of the kids that had it ended up playing but with two or three of them you could see they were sick. So this fact in and of itself makes our win at Bowling Green very very impressive.
My prediction was 38-31 Yotes. The asterisk prediction was going to be Bowling Green 31-14 if all those kids couldn't play.
Observations from the game: 1.) There is absolutely no doubt USD was the better team, and if we played them 10 times, we would win 7 or 8 of them. Our defensive line dominated their huge offensive line. That fact alone is the change I have been saying since spring is going to change how teams prepare for us. Our cornerbacks covered their receivers like a blanket. And their receivers we fast. Unbelievable job by our D.
2.) If we can get a running game established a little better than what we have right now, and that comes with development, then we are without question in a position to contend even this year. I'm not saying we will win the MVFC, but I am saying, and have said that we will contend. Without development of that aspect of the game, we have to rely on a running QB that is a decent passer. The side affect of such a game is Chris will take shots, and one of them is bound to lay him out at some point, hopefully not for long.
3.) We have, without question, a receiving corp that is extremely good and dangerous. Case in point last night in BG, Kody Case caught that ball and pulled away from the defenders. How many times will you see a kid form NW Iowa pull away from db's at this level? We legitimately have 7-8 guys that can catch the ball in difficult situations. That's a HUGE change from 2 and 3 years ago where our kids were open but dropped balls. This group of kids is talented, and young, and the top signee of the MVFC is being redshirted. That sets up Simmons for the next 2 years. All I can say is WOW.
4.) I have said many times on here that you can have all the talent you want, but if they don't have the ❤️ you're not going to win consistently. This team has it, I'm telling you. They are focused and hungry, and literally resent the fact they aren't in the topic of conversation for title aspirations. Our kids are strong as hell. Our freshman are as good a class as there has been in years, if ever, and if the recruiting remains like that, I'm telling you for a fact and not wishful thinking, USD is here to stay.
The team we played last night was perhaps the dirtiest team I have ever witnessed. The refs caught a lot of it,but certainly not all of it. They were eye gouging, throwing punches away from the action, etc. My point in bringing this up is our kids kept their composure throughout the entire game. That comes with GREAT coaching and mentoring.
Make no doubt, USD was the far better team last night. Remove that last long pass play, and we outyarded them by over 100 Yards, and with an offense as fast moving as we are, we had over 33 minutes in time of possession. Wow. That's massive.
In closing, we have UND coming to our house Saturday. If that Dome isn't filled to the brim, something is hugely wrong. I hate the fact it takes big wins to get fans excited, much like the women's NIT, but now that we have the team to compete, that Dome should be sold out every game. Not only to support the Coyotes but to show the administration and board of regents the updating of the Dome is vital and necessary to finish the deal.
UND will come to Vermillion as the #10 team in the country or better. They have a running back as good as anyone in FCS football. This will be a huge game, and another tough day on the field. It's going to be one hell of a game. A lot on the line for the Coyotes.
If you have any questions fire away from yesterday's game. I am so impressed with how much they overcame and put up with to win this game. Great job by both the players and the staff.

Stats for Strev. Passing: 19/34, 1 TD, 306 yards, no INT. Rushing: 119 yards on 23 attempts, 3 TDs. All purpose would be 425 yards and 4 TDs, all this coming against an FBS foe. Seeing how many offensive POW awards he wins will be a game in itself. Anyone else think that Streveler felt like he had something to prove to the FOS?

Yoteforever, do you think we have the depth to contend this year? The unit we've fielded the first two weeks has shown they're for real, but we are bound to lose guys over the course of the season and the backups are largely unproven - especially on the OL and defense.
I'll be highly disappointed if we aren't in the playoffs and among the final 16 teams standing, but I've got my reservations about contending for the MVFC title. If we start 2-0 in league play I might come around on that.

My wife and i went to the game this weekend and thought everything about Bowling Green is first class. Bowling Green is a beautiful campus and, in our opinion, a reflection of the people there. Everybody was very welcoming, vorteoud and helpful. Nothing changed after the loss. A VERY BIG THANKS TO ALL YOU AT BOWLING GREEN!!! That is great that you had a good time and have a good impression of Bowling Green and the people there. I thought the announcers on the broadcast had a lot of good things to say about the Coyotes as well.

I wear my emotions on my sleeves. If the turnaround started under Glenn it didn't turn around in the Win-Loss column. Nielson has to totally change the type of players he needs for his system and in general I would say what Nielson has done so far is 90% of the reason for the turnaround as far as the competitiveness factor. IMO Glenn cleaned up the program and gave the team a sense of pride but they simply weren't a MVFC ready type of team.

2-0 on the road to start the season. That matches the most road wins we've had in a season since going D1. Anyone else remember when we went like 4 years without a road win?

I'll be highly disappointed if we aren't in the playoffs and among the final 16 teams standing, but I've got my reservations about contending for the MVFC title. If we start 2-0 in league play I might come around on that. Injuries is always going to play a key role. We can ill afford any serious ones in the O line. Linebackers we don't have a ton of depth. Our D backs I think we do, and quite honestly, what a job they did. Those BG receivers were covered tight and clean. We have 2 great QB's that can win, but against really tough teams Chris is the key because as I said earlier, our running back situation is just ok in my opinion. Chris is just hard to prepare for and defend. If he goes down, then we truly get one dimensional with Simmons. Lastly, let me qualify my meaning of contend. I do think we can play/beat anyone in the league. If we do it enough times, then yes we can compete for titles. The heart ( and belief ) thing is what I now think is in place. They have it. They exude confidence in a quiet way. I was hugely impressed with their development in this arena. I think ( just my thoughts ) that is so key. They now know they can win. I called for a 7-4 year with an outside chance at 8-3. I stand by that. A win over UND would be huge. That win is not a given, I'm telling you. 5-3 in the MVFC is realistic. That puts us at 7-4 or 8-3. In closing, I think we are definitely title contenders in 2018 and beyond subject to non-major issues happening. This is one good staff from top to bottom. And lastly let me add, again in my opinion, do not underestimate the affect of Joe Glenn's laying the foundation. Nielsens staff has upped the recruiting, no doubt, but they also have more tools as well. Case in point is the weight room. So I personally thank coach Glenn for pointing us the right direction. In my opinion, Joe epitomizes of what being a Coyote is all about. Back this team for the rest of the season. Sell out the Dome.

I can agree 5-3 in the MVFC is realistic. That's protecting the Dome and taking one road game. We can do that.

What a game! It was apparent we were the better team. That was an upset on paper simply because of the FBS vs FCS aspect. Lets not get too crazy on here though the Missouri Valley is SOB and can eat you alive if you don't come prepared every week. I'm really looking forward to this next game. This game should be personal for what happened last year.

USD has a great offense my one concern is that typically teams that are contenders in the MVFC have a back that can carry the load and give the defense time to rest but if they get that they can compete with anyone in the MVFC.

Made the decision to run down to the field for the last few minutes and I'm glad I did. Here's what I captured of the celebration: youtu.be/OOds1tAKH2w
