Fun game to watch. Looking at the score after the first quarter was very exciting and satisfying. It's obviously too early to anoint them... but it's an impressive start. Strev was fantastic and it's good to know Simmons is available if needed. Simmons has got excellent wheels himself and a better arm. I'm hoping our running game will continue to develop to take some of the load of the QB. The defense played tough on all levels... D-line, LB's & the secondary. My biggest question mark is our kicking game as it relates to field goals. It wasn't needed yesterday but it will likely make the difference in more than a few games this season. We lost what was arguably the best kicker in the league and USD history! Let's hope the one attempt yesterday was some understandable nerves and he'll work through it. Overall a great game and huge win. I enjoyed reading the HC comments in the locker room after the game. He struck exactly the right note. This coaching staff has done a tremendous job in shaping what is a talented group of young men.

After going to the first game at Drake I was still unsure who this team really was, but after going to see the game at BG you can start to see the character of this team. Offensively, this team is led by Streveler. The O-line is much improved from last year, solid pass protection and overall good run blocking. The depth and talent at receiver are evident, but the ability of Streveler to know where everyone is and hit his 3rd and 4th reads impresses me. The running game looks better, it was great to see Fredrick have a good game especially since his family left the hurricane in Florida and came to see him play. The younger backs saw less time and this is not surprising as the experienced players need to step up in big games until they can gain that experience (this is true all throughout the team). I just hope we do not have to lean on Streveler too much in the running game as we need him healthy.
Defensively, I really liked what I saw on the D-line and backfield. The front four is much improved. Schultz looks like the real deal and will be a load for the next 4 years in the MVFC. The ends, Greenfield, CLine, and Kramer looked great against the run and pressuring the QB. The highlight for me is the play of our DBs! Danny Rambo is as solid a cover corner there is and the play of Harris and Williamson also looks great. At Safety, we are solid with Gray, Johnson, Lewis and Powell. The depth here is great and the overall coverage is great and is leading to sacks by the D-line. The only area where I am looking for a breakout player is at linebacker. Many have played well, but no real star player yet. Litrenta looked good and I like the look from the freshman Kordus, he may become an impact player over time.
The other thing that impresses me is just overall how we are playing. The coaching staff has these kids flying around making plays but also playing with class. We seem to be staying away from the garbage that can occur on a field and instead remain focused on the prize. Kudos to this coaching staff and that gives me hope that this year and future years can be special. Looking forward to a packed dome this weekend!

Full replay is on ESPN for anyone wanting to see what happened in the 3rd quarter.
Our place kicker situation seems dire. Bad miss on a 30 yard attempt, poor kickoffs all day, didn't even try a FG on 4th and 6 at their 27. Not good.

Congrats on your win yesterday. Massey Composite has you ranked 12 in FCS. (May change a little as other polls come in but very good in any case.) MVFC after yesterday has 6 of top 12 ranked teams and 7 out of top 17. www.masseyratings.com/cf/compare1aa.htmGood luck next week against UND

Made the decision to run down to the field for the last few minutes and I'm glad I did. Here's what I captured of the celebration: youtu.be/OOds1tAKH2wThis is great. You can truly see 100% pure joy exuding from Coach Nielsen's face. Thanks, Jay!

From where I was sitting at the time, up high but at the opposite end, I thought the field goal was good when he kicked it and was surprised when the refs signaled no good. I'm not suggesting they were wrong by any means, just that execution etc seemed to go off smoothly. Remember, Bergner struggled early season two years ago before hitting his stride. As for the kickoffs, BGSU had this weird staggered formation and he seemed to be trying to punch it into no man's land. Looks like it worked the one time when we recovered the fumble. On another kickoff, it bounced and they were chasing it around, so all in all I thought the kickoff unit, while maybe unconventional, did a great job.

YFE's comments earlier are spot on. The team will need to continue to find a way to get a team on it's heels with our RB running game and not be as dependent on Streveler - he cannot be a battering ram every game. Props to Mike Frederick - he played a good game with some key runs and screen pass runs. Need the young RBs to continue to develop. The big dogs on the OL and DL won the day against a stout group of BG players. That is encouraging to see. From a kicking standpoint the FG miss was disappointing, but lets see how he rebounds. I am more concerned with how long it appears it is taking our punter to get the ball away. Teams will be coming after us trying for a block after seeing the BG film on tape. The other thing that stands out to me is that our offense has had tremendous ball security. No lost offensive fumbles or careless throws leading to INTs. That is great coaching IMO. So proud of the massive effort and how the coaching staff is maximizing the talent on the roster to produce results. Well done Coyotes! The ND game will be a battle. UND will not abandon the run quite as easily as BG did. Will have to be very stout up front again.

One of the things that are really great about sports is that it doesn't matter if you are a player, coach, support person, administrator, fan etc. If you really invest in a program and stick with it, You are able to really enjoy when things work out. I have supported the yotes when they weren't winning and now that they are it is really satisfying. The same thing applies to everything else in life. If you work through the tough times, it makes the good times so much better. I know we haven't reached our goals. Not by a long shot. But I'm going to enjoy this one for a week. It's also nice to see CF is more positive now days. By the way, this turn around started under Joe Glenn. I am only as positive or negative as the how the team that is playing on the court. I wear my emotions on my sleeves. If the turnaround started under Glenn it didn't turn around in the Win-Loss column. Nielson has to totally change the type of players he needs for his system and in general I would say what Nielson has done so far is 90% of the reason for the turnaround as far as the competitiveness factor. IMO Glenn cleaned up the program and gave the team a sense of pride but they simply weren't a MVFC ready type of team. . We were 5-6 in Joes last year. We beat NDSU and we were one play away from beating SDSU which would have put us in the playoffs. Most would say that was moving the program in the right direction however I acknowledge your right to your opinion as wrong as it may be. None the less I'm 100% behind this coaching staff and team. Just as I was last year

But really, no one cares about these rankings as we have been overlooked for years. Similarly, no one cares about either of the XDSU's, especially SDSU. The Coyotes will continue to make progress and this weekend proved we are much closer than even our own fans give us credit for - check this board for those less than optimistic. Looking forward to the playoffs!

Congratulations on a great win. I really liked one comment a few posts way back about completing some short passes to open up for the long passes. That's the talk of a winner. Before yesterday, I have been hoping for any kind of Hawk's passes to open it up some. Sure we made some pass completions over the past, but lots of complaints about up the gut 1, up the gut 2, pass play on 3rd. Sure we had some pass plays against you guys last year, but that's because we had too for how far we fell behind, and the defense helped. Both teams really haven't been in FCS that long and here we are with this important game when thinking of playoff ramifications. Each team will move on and still have to knock down doors in each of their conferences, but it will sting for the loser at the end of this week. Would love to play you the Yotes a 2nd time this year.
