Technically the Mount Marty game was part of this. The Coyotes can't win this classic without being able to beat Mount Marty.
This is what we are looking at for the tourney with the following games played at the Sanford Pentagon
Friday at 5:30PM vs Southern Mississippi
The Golden Eagles are 2-1 so far and are in Conference USA
vs Southern-New Orleans they won 79-69 at Michigan they lost 61-47 vs Blue Mountain College they won 90-46
It looks like they played one very difficult game and two cupcakes. They only beat an NAIA school by 10. Conference USD is pretty good but perhaps not as good as it used to be. The Eagles only won 9 games last year. They could compete if they play very well but I would expect the Coyotes to still win this game by at least double digits it not 20 or more.
Saturday at 6:30PM vs Northern Colorado
The Bears are 1-2 so far and are in the Big Sky
at Colorado they lost 66-51 vs UC-Davis they lost 74-59 at Pepperdine they won 84-82
They were 7-11 in the Big Sky last year and lost to Montana and Montana state by a decent margin. Those two teams the Coyotes handled when they weren't even playing well yet last year. The Coyotes should run them pretty much right out of the Pentagon. There is a better chance that the Coyotes win this game by 30 than the Bears win or keep it to a single digit loss.
Sunday at 2PM vs Youngstown State
The Penguins are 1-2 so far and are in the Horizon League
vs Kent State they lost 111-78 - are you kidding me vs Franciscan University they won 134-46 at Canisius they lost 104-84
There were 5-13 in the Horizon League last year. One again the Coyotes should smoke this team. It would be disappointing if the Coyotes didn't win this by 20.
Overall the competition isn't quite as good as I would like it to be but at least these are all D1 programs and good tests for the team. If the Coyotes beat S. Mississippi especially if they beat them badly they are going to win this tourney easily barring an unusual turn of events. It is nice to play a couple of different type of opponents in YSU and Southern Miss. It would be nice if they could make this event or a similar event in Vermillion a common occurance. It allows the basket junkie to get 3 games in 3 days and who doesn't like that.

If I were in town this weekend, I would definitely be going to this (except for the Saturday game because I'd be watching the football game on TV). Alas, I will be spending my Thanksgiving in Colorado with relatives.
I did tell my wife that had the Yotes hosted a first round playoff game, she would be making the trip to Colorado with our three kids by herself. Surprisingly, she didn't argue with me and said she understood... I was expecting a huge fight over that one...
Anyone know if these games will be televised on ESPN3? I am not seeing anything on the Yotes website saying they will be except for the Sunday game vs Youngstown and that one will be on Fox Sports North.

I realize CF seems pretty confident in a blowout win and I hope he's right, but it appears they lost at Michigan by 14. I would like to think we are better than the Big 10 tournament champs from last year who made it to the Sweet 16, but I just don't know if we are there yet. If we win that game by 20 I'm going to be damn impressed and not just think that it was expected. It certainly appears like we will be the two best teams in the classic.

On Saturday there is a watch party across the street for the USD playoff game. The timing is just right so that it should be ending just in time for everyone to walk over to the basketball game. I might end up doing that.

Southern Mississippi tonight! The Golden Eagles are led by Tyree Griffin (transfer from Oklahoma State) who's averaging 17 a game then balanced scoring by several players around 10/gm. They have only 1 SR but 5 RS JRs. Great Coyote D will be the key with balanced scoring by the Yotes too! Go Yotes!!!

Do we know if Mooney is going tonight? Or is this a game-time decision?

Do we know if Mooney is going tonight? Or is this a game-time decision? it sounded like Mooney was being held out the last game more for precaution or rest than anything. He was never going to be needed for Mount Marty. I am guessing he will be ready to go tonight.

I'm in Colorado for the Holiday... anyone know if this game will be televised? When you click "Watch" on the Goyote.com site, it takes you to a Facebook page.

I'd happily trade up to courtside for Sunday. Consider it done. Here's the deal, I haven't got my tickets yet in the mail, so I'm waiting to see if they come in today's mail. If not, I'll need to have them reprinted. But assuming that they will get done. So wait until I give you green light, but then you give your tickets away to someone that needs them or whatever, and you get mine. Straight up trade. Deal? But wait until I get my situation handled.
