Paraphrased transcript part I:
In a lot of ways this was a typical Coyote- Western Illinois game, right?
"Yeah, It's what we do, I guess. It's like the Pistons and the Bulls during the bad-boy era. Just a rock-fight. Every time we play these guys, it's a knock-down, drag-out fist fight. If you love defense, it's a thing of beauty. If you love offense, you can't get out of here fast enough."
You even said that going in to this game. What did you specifically like about your defense?
If you're not scoring on offense, you tend to lose your energy and edge on defense. Our guys really dug in, played in a great stance, guarded well, played good post defense on Gilbeck, and ended possessions. When you can do all those things and play with grit, it becomes contagious. It starts with your point guard. Tristan's a very good defender.
Is there value in being able to win a game in this manner? (with bad offense)
In a game like that, where you have to work for everything, shots aren't falling, you have to galvanize as a team. And we did that. It's just so hard to win at this level. There will be nights that nobody could beat you, and nights that you won't beat anyone. And a bunch of games in the middle where you have to find a way to win.

I didn't even know micro was covering basketball this year other than the live broadcasts.

Part II:
What's Carlton Hurst's status going forward?
We'll see. It was in practice, just a transition drill. He was sliding his feet, guarding the ball, and he got screened on a drag screen. You could hear it. He's gonna be out for a while with a broken hand. When the swelling comes down, we will have to take a look, but we don't anticipate him coming back real soon. Will he be back by the end of the year? If things go the way they should, yes.
How much did you miss Carlton Saturday?
Anyone who has watched our team play knows how valuable he is. He's the "Silent Assasin" and the "Ultimate Warrior". It's obvious to see that we did miss him. NDSU shot above 50%, which doesn't happen very often against us. Credit to them.
Carlton isn't walking through that door, so it's "next man up". We went through this last year with Tyler Flack. All of a sudden Hagedorn raises his game. So this year, Tyler Petersen has to play better for us, Brandon Armstrong has to be better. Who's the next guy? Is Nick Fuller going to play more with Trey and our 5 guy? We've got to figure out what combination's gonna work out best, and how to defend better than the other night.

Part III: (Coach Smith has a lot to say!)
You were up early against NDSU and they turned the tables on you. You battled back, but couldn't finish. What happened in those final minutes?
Early in the game, after we got up 15-3, we weren't playing connected on offense. We got a little selfish. At about six minutes before the half, the wheels came off. They got it going in transition, and our conversion defense was poor. We were dazed and confused.
We regrouped at the half and got back in the game. At that point in the game, you have to get stops, and we couldn't do it. At the end of the day, rebounding was the major factor. You gotta be able to finish possessions with two-handed rebounds, and execute.
Keys to the Fort Wayne Game on Thurdsay?
They are a HIGH-octane offense. Like the Lakers of the 80's. They rank high in scoring and made 3's a game. Bryson Scott is averaging 22 a game. They put a lot of pressure on you. They always have 4 and sometimes 5 guys out there that can shoot the 3.
You gotta guard the ball, carry a hand, and know where those shooters are.

As someone who doesn't have cable, I wish there was more content put online. I loved watching Coyote Corner every week and getting 30 mins of USD coverage guaranteed. Now I have to sift through a bunch of short videos and it's much harder to find USD content in my opinion. If the full shows were online I think that would be better to be honest.

The sifting problem had been overlooked. I would guess that the USD site could not use Midco material. My apologies.
