The coyotes lost in 5 sets, being the only team in the Summit to win a set in Denver's Home gym, and only the second 5-set match that Denver has played in-conference.
We are now tied with Omaha for second; each team has three conference losses. We play Omaha on the road on Sunday afternoon in a battle for 2nd place, and a tournament bye.
Denver is still undefeated with just three matches left to play, so I assume they have clinched the top seed, and will clinch the conference title with just one more match.

Volleyball team swept Omaha in three straight sets to take over second place in conference. Kioat, you're slipping! Ha! Lots of family time today, so I feel no shame. Gotta have that balance. Besides, If I posted about every match, you guys would just take it for granted... Gotta wean you off of my enabling. Get excited about volleyball on your own! But for reals, this team has obviously gotten better through the season, and is playing their best at the right time. I'd say Leanne is earning her pay! I smell an upset in the championship match...

Don't count on anything from me. I don't understand volleyball rules or statistics at all.

Don't count on anything from me. I don't understand volleyball rules or statistics at all. Meh. I’m no expert, either. I don’t really understand any of the rules of rotation/ substituting/ strategy etc. I don’t understand some of the calls, like double hits. It’s still a fun sport to watch, though. The scoring happens about as frequently as in basketball, so it’s great for low-attention-span idiots like me.

I am a novice fan, meaning I don't understand many of the rules but I do enjoy watching the games. It started with watching granddaughter's Embe games (rather painful) but as she progressed thru middle school it became quite entertaining. In addition to granddaughter's games, I now watch all of the Yote games I can and will watch the Huskers and other top rated teams on tv. Volley ball has a lot of athletic plays but also some subtle nuances that take a while to appreciate. Guess I can say the same about soccer, don't understand the rules but this past season I watched a lot of the Yote's games. That Yote program appears to be coming on as well. kiyoat, I appreciate your Yote VB coverage!

That's where I started following volleyball. When I was living in Omaha, it was everywhere. The Husker VB team gets 365 coverage just like the football team. The great thing about watching high-level competition is the commentators. They really know their stuff in the Big Ten, and you can learn a lot from listening to them. Same as any sport, I guess. During the Olympics we temporarily become "expert fans" in curling, diving, Nordic biathalon, speed skating, etc.

Monday interview with Coach Williamson:
A few quotes:
Q: What momentum did the team take from that week (on the road) into the Omaha match on Sunday?
"...I think confidence-wise it was there.... In terms of the Volleyball aspect it was tough. Our practices on Thursday and Friday actually weren't very good.... It wasn't effort... It was just fatigue. The execution wasn't always there. [...] I think there were some question marks going into Sunday, how the team would respond. I think you saw in the first half of the first game, some sloppy play on our end.... and then you saw our fight take over... [...] Momentum is tough when you are coming off of a road stretch like that."
Q: After winning 7 of the last 8 matches by sweeps, what kind of confidence is this team taking into playing right now?
"... I don't know if I would have [predicted] that that would have happened eight matches ago.... Confidence is part of it, but I think a big part of it is that they bought into who we are. And I think they're comfortable with that. The defensive end.. is what we are known for. We find ways to keep drives alive, we extend rallies, and our defenders do a really good job of not only digging, but digging in system, where we can get attacks on them. [...] I think this team's just bought into who we are, what we're good at, and what's gonna continue to allow us to have success."
Q: As we head into the final weekend of the regular season, [...] what's the challenge for this team?
"Staying focused on the match at hand. It's easy at this point in the season to start to look ahead. We're excited that we [have qualified for] the tournament, but we're not done.... That #2 seed would be huge for us. It's something that we worked for yesterday, obviously. To beat Omaha on their home floor was a big step for us, but we still have two more matches in order to secure that. [...] both UND and NDSU are fighting for entry into the tournament, so they're not going to take it easy on us. They're not gonna come in and roll over. We're gonna have to earn those wins, still...."
great stuff. I really like Coach Williamson. She has the psychology part of team-building down pat. I'm sure the Denver Coach will win COY this year, but Coach Williamson deserves another one for this season IMO.

Another sweep! That makes 7 of the last 8 matches! 2nd seed clinched. Taylor with 18 kills! Jurgens eclipses 1,000 sets in her freshman year...

Wow, that makes 8 sweeps in the last 9 matches! Coyotes will get the bye in next weekend’s tournament. They will likely play Omaha in the semifinals, unless the Mavs get upset in the quarterfinals.
Despite the strength and consistency of Denver, I think we have a puncher’s chance to take it all.
