Minnesota’s reaction to Sanford was another expression of their undeserved arrogance. There was never a more undeserving organization than the university of min. Absolutely a bloated, misguided, perverse institution that should register its athletes as sex offenders before traveling to other towns.
I would say Sanford saw the light and is now investing in the home land, not seeking some kind of affirmation From undeserving, arrogant universities no longer serving the public good.
Congratulations to the Sanford organization!

If they are both undeserving I go with Augie and Sanford. The money was raised here and should be spent here. So far I don’t see a scam like Engelsteds and the hockey rink that earned him a 200 million tax deduction plus 30 years of revenues from rents and ticket sales. I don’t think Sanford is offering a building rather some type of endowment.
On another note Augies AD said they are waiting for an invitation and it could take 2 years. My guess is they need to get a few more ducks in order then an invite from someone they are consulting with will come. My guess Summit and MVFC/Pioneer
outside chance WAC
Speculation on Mountain West expansion has been high too with NDSU being named by outsiders as 1 of 6 likely suspects. Maybe Augie is going to replace them? The time frame is about right.
In the end Augie still needs to get a few things ironed out and they say it will take 2 years Proof of financial ability is probably a good guess. Maybe a facility upgrade?
By the time Augie takes the field all you students will be graduated.

I closed the poll. There have been 32 voters, compared with 24 the last time I polled this topic.
38% in favor 3% el Coyote 59% against
Interesting. Based on discussions on the other Dakota team boards, I kinda feel like they have a similar outlook to USD with regard to pro or against. I don’t think posters from those schools voting would tip the ratio too much. Unless a bunch of newly registered Augie fans are voting, ...
Another take away for me is the large number of voters that don’t feel strongly either way. (50%)

I also expected more opposition to this move, especially since no one is able to make a good case for their addition to the conference outside of geography. The negatives far outweigh the positives (or is it positive singular?).
Honestly, Augustana's fans and alumni have their own strong case against the move too. Making such a move on the back of one key donor is so risky it could hurt the entire institution if things don't go to plan. If the Summit suddenly went belly up would anyone take them?
We are teetering on the edge here. I don't know that we will be able to keep anyone in the Summit with 5 Dakotas making up the core, let alone anyone worthwhile. I would dearly like to know what Douple's long term plan looks like.
Our program is definitely taking a step in the wrong direction if we associate with them again. No one should be in favor of this.

Clearly the SUs had this correct when they announced the D1 move and gave the NCC a year to come with them. They understood there is no chance for “advancement”. At that time people thought the Big Sky was nirvana but we now know it is not.
teetering on the edge? On the edge of what?
It’s teetering on the edge of absurdity to think any school in the Summit is viewed differently than Augi.
The schools will vote on this if it comes to pass. Augie has a couple years, they say, to get it together or the D1 move is on hold.
Having Augie in the wings will pacify the NCAA if an auto bid is threatened by any more departures.
The schools moving on from the Summit are all Augies too, moving to Summit leagues a little closer to home or a little more soothing to their ridiculous egos.
We are all bozos on this bus. About the only way to get glamorous around here is to transfer to one of the schools that will make you glamorous even though none of us were glamorous to begin with.
In in the meantime I think what we have and what we are building in the upper Midwest is already glamorous. It may not be good enough for a back east snob or other elitists but it is all we got and nobody, but nobody, is on track to give anything more than that to any of us, no matter how important or deserving anyone might feel their Dakota school is.

Here is my take on Augie and their D1 move. You have a former US House Congresswoman as the current president and a hospital mongul on the board of trustee. They are confident that the financial support in Sioux Falls are there to support their move. Whether some one in Vermillion or Arlington does not want this to happen, it will. I suspect they have kind of a Creighton vision and hope to someday emulate that vision and with Sioux Falls continuing to grow, it just might happen. No doubt Stephanie did a number of favors for many of the movers and shakers in Sioux Falls when she was in Congress. She is now about to call in her chips in making this risky financial move. Kelby Krabbenhoft is looking for new challenge. All the hospitals have been merged. He most like needs a new challenge and the Augie move fills that bill. It does not matter a whole lot about what other Summit League members like or dislike about. It is here.
