That was another tough pill to swallow today. I always hate it when Miller has a big game against us because that means I have to watch her celebrate in our face all day long. When she's playing well she makes sure you know it, and unfortunately she plays well a lot. She probably doesn't celebrate herself quite to the same extent that Shannon schlagel (SP?) or Brenda Davis did but it's still to the point where if a shot goes in I'm praying it wasn't her that shot it. At least today should be the last time I have to watch her kick our ass. She really is a great player.

Tough break with Duffy. SDSU is too good to beat without our best player, much like USD is too good to beat if it was Miller that went down. It seemed like the confidence left the team in red when it happened, and the team in blue gained it. The zone was killer (lots of standing around) and Duffy wasn't there to break it with shooting from 25 feet.
My concern with the at-large right now is that injuries apparently matter. So, though the Yotes won't really get dinged for losing today, the committee may evaluate the team sans-Duffy, which is just another reason to stiff the mid-major and put in another P5 team.

The thing that gets lost in the offensive stuff she does is that when she's out or hobbled the defense doesn't work quite like it does when she's healthy, either. Having a 6-1 kid who can usually guard just about all five spots and is one of your smartest players makes a lot of the switching they do possible. There's just so much that goes into what she does on both ends that it really is impossible to replace. Offense, defense, transition, passing, range shooting, rebounding, that was just a massive blow to have to play through.
OK. I'm done.

If Miller had gone down and we'd have won, I would have been happy for our players, but it would have been tempered to a degree. Great players want to play and beat the best.

Did anyone see a replay of when Duffy injured her foot? I was at the game, and they didn't replay it on the monitor. Just wondering if she just landed funny on it, or what.

Just rolled it when she came down. Shoe just caught the floor weird. Didn't land on anybody.

Almost as painful as the Summit forcing the Yotes to stick around for the awards. Should have just let them go to the locker room. That was uncomfortable.

Having a 6-1 kid who can both play the 4 and shoot from 25 feet is what makes us competitive against the best teams like ISU, Missouri, and SDSU. It just seems like she was the absolute last person that we could lose. But maybe I'm just frustrated in losing to SDSU yet again. Doesn't mean we're wrong though.

As good as Miller and Geubert are (and they are), they never defeated the Lady Yotes in Vermillion and were only 2-2 in brooktown in their careers. They were 4-0 on a neutral court (SLT--although really it is primarily a home court for them). So their career mark vs the Coyotes was 6-6 a fact that would surprise most.

As good as these Coyotes are, and they are very good, Sjerven and Duffy are the two pieces that give this team the chance to beat great teams. That’s not a knock on anybody else on the roster, it’s just an acknowledgment of the singular sets of skills and length those two bring to the court. Depth can fill in the gaps at most other spots going down but those two are going to be felt a little more.

Took a look at the box score from yesterday. If any of Mckeever/Lamb/Monica/Taylor each makes even 1 more shot the game is different. SDSU points are extremely top heavy from Miller and Geubert. But what is so different is they got small contributions from several players with higher efficiency. Sure RCJ only had 6 points, but she went 2/3 shooting to do it. Selland has 6, Irwin 7, Larson 8. Burckhard only scores 2 but gets 3 assists. Theunick & Selland 4 each. We had 7 assists as a team. We’ve talked about depth and balanced scoring all year. But in a game like this, you must have a “dog” with a killer instinct...or two. AA played like a killer, but lost her co-pilot. And that is a killer.

Allison was awesome as she has been consistently for three years. Her competitiveness and mental toughness is a sight to behold.
