Texas Southern visits Vermillion tonight. Seems like a game we should win, but I'm sure Texas Southern is looking forward to playing "just" South Dakota. These guys are notorious for playing absurdly difficult non-conference schedules every year with basically every game on the road. They've started the year with San Diego State and Wichita State, giving the latter a bit of trouble. Last year they beat Oregon, Baylor, and Texas A&M. I think they might be the most well prepared team we face in the non-conference because of the stout competition they always take on.

A quick glance at their stats show a team that's very capable on the defensive end, but really seems to struggle shooting the ball especially from three point land. Don't know if that reflects the defense played by the level of competition they've faced or not. I would assume we're in for a battle and if we can hit shots at the rate we've been should come out with a home win.

Players to watch: #3 Eden Ewing - 6' 7" Sr. Forward Looking at his limited stats from this year (two games only), He is the leading scorer at 12.0 ppg, the leading rebounder at 7.0 rpg, (including 3 ORB/g), gets the most turnovers (3/g) and the most minutes (28.5 mpg). Not many assists. When he gets the ball (a lot) I'm guessing he is more focused on scoring than passing. Looks like they must rotate a lot of players, so they don't have to worry about foul accumulation as much and can play aggressive? Just a guess.

#20 Tyrik Armstrong 5' 10" Sr. Guard 10.5 ppg / 1.5 rpg / 2.5 ast / 1.0 stl 45/25/100 shooting He is the second-leading scorer, and leads in FG%, mostly inside the arc. Also leads in assists and steals. I'll guess he is the starting PG.

Here's a season preview for Texas Southern from the Houston Chronicle: So this team is chock-full of P-6 transfer players, especially forwards. Purdue, Miss St, TAMU, and U-Mass. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It can be a winning strategy in today's transfer culture. After this year our roster will be like "Saint Mary's of the plains", so it's hard to throw stones. I'm hopeful our strategy can work well, too. Also, a large percentage of Texas Southern's roster are kids that are originally from the Houston Metro area.

Good defense, indeed. 31.9% FG Defense (#13) 30.0% 3P Defense (#140) 5.5 blocks/game (#47) ball control: They are getting a lot of rebounds a game, but are negative in rebound margin. To me, that means they've been in many-possession games. Short possessions, lots of turnovers, etc. Not many assists. Probably a lot of transition offense? (fast breaks). Offense: bad.

They are averaging 24 fouls a game, and playing a deep bench. i guess we will be testing our free-throw abilities again.

Anyone having issues with the webcast? Yes. When it is working the audio is 5 seconds behind the video.
