Todd Lee was mentioned with the likes of Randy Bennett, Bryce Drew, and Marvin Menzies as possible replacements.
Any chance Lee actually has a shot of that position or is that close relationships from GCU helping pump his name a bit.

I mean, that school has a lot of financial resources, but has not been able to get out of the WAC, despite desiring to. The Summit League accepted UMKC, but not GCU.

I could be wrong but I think that the decision to accept UMKC but not GCU had more to do with geographics and it did with demographics?

But that still doesn't answer the question: which job is more desirable? Is the GCU MBB job a step up from USD? I honestly don't know. Phoenix is obviously a very desirable city to live in. GCU has a lot of resources. I'd put the conference solidly below the Summit, but maybe that isn't as big a factor as I am thinking.

I think family dynamics may play a role in this decision if it is offered to him....

GCU is a shiny coin in the mid-major landscape, considering how quickly their enrollment has jumped in the last decade. That, combined with being in Phoenix, may very well have an overall appeal advantage, at least to some. The other question is, what does GCU get in Lee that they didn't have in Majerle?

Good question. The combo of Lee and Majerle seemed to work pretty well. I'd have to guess that Majerle's "star power" was probably leveraged by Lee very well in recruiting. I wouldn't even go so far as to say Majerle did poorly without Lee, since he had one good and one bad season. Pretty impatient AD down there.

Randy Bennett? The guy from Saint Mary's? Why would he ever be a name in the mix?

Bennett grew up in the Valley and his parents still live there. Plus he's a great coach. Who wouldn't be interested in him? Apparently, Pitino was their first choice. Tim Miles is also getting some mention as someone they are interested in.

Tim Miles is also getting some mention as someone they are interested in. Bennett recently got a 10 year extension at a significantly more attractive job. Blows my mind to see that name. Honestly, Lee probably doesn't stand a chance with all these names thrown around. GCU is aggressively seeking prominent mid-major status, and you have to look no further than their roll of the dice on their last guy.

Three horrible years at Vandy and the SEC have landed Bryce Drew right back where he was with Valpo, at least in terms of his place in the pecking order of D-l hoops. Only this time he won't have the God-like status he and his family enjoyed at Valpo.
