Although it's been many years since I've set foot in "The Zoo", unless it's changed drastically it's hardly what I'd call a restaurant or a place I'd take a family. Some of the best advice I ever received: Nothing good happens in a bar after midnight.

I agree! 1AM is a little late for a family dinner.

Some of the best advice I ever received: Nothing good happens in a bar after midnight. My buddy who went to Northern referred to it as being like their Char Bar. Can't vouch for that but I thought it was funny.

To add a bit to elcoyote's post. Many years ago I took a standardized test at work with my fellow health care workers. The test measured one's life expectancy based on answers to a series of questions relating to lifestyle (e.g. do you use seat belts?); biology (e.g. are you male or female?); environment (e.g. where do you live/work?); and access to medical care (e.g. regular health checkups, vaccinations). For example, if you always wore a seat belt while driving you received a point or two, meaning that some amount was added to your expected life span. On the other hand, if you smoked, then years were taken away.
I remember that far and away the biggest negative determinant on one's life expectancy was this lifestyle-related question: "Do you go to bars and pick fights with strangers?"
Not accusing Mr. Goedert of anything wrong in this post - just possibly adding to the knowledge base of my fellow Coyote fans. Mr. Sucker Puncher may want to alter his lifestyle choices, however.

I guess this is a case where semantics and context matters. A bar that serves food and gets rowdy after midnight = a family restaurant. Going to the bar with some friends and some cousins = at a restaurant with his family. Not saying he was asking to get punched, or anything. Just that you can make a misleading headline pretty easily in this type of situation that will color your reaction to it.
My take is that he was out to the bar with some old friends, doing what most people do to have fun in small towns in SD. Pretty normal stuff if you are a regular dude from a small town in your early 20's. Problem is, he isn't just a regular dude. He can't afford to do what regular dudes do, and put himself in potentially bad situations. Sucks for him, but its a price you pay to be where he is. JMO. I'm glad things turned out OK.

Even my friends who ascended to positions of the smallest public exposure refuse to go out to bars after dark. An NFL player should realize that going to a dive bar where they will be recognized (if not advertising their status) at 1 AM is a bad idea.
He did go to state though...

That's the problem for a person like that. Too often there'll be some drunk moron tough guy who thinks he needs to prove himself against the NFLer so he can brag about it later. For the pro player it's an absolutely no win situation.

Pro athletes go out to bars and clubs all the time. They just need to have a so called posse that will intimidate away anyone who desires to get physical with them. Maybe Dallas thought Aberdeen would be no threat compared to Philly. Anyways, I'm glad he's alright.
