www.volanteonline.com/news/new-logo-to-represent-university-1.2525973Looks like USD is finally getting rid of that stupid U. logo. Thank goodness. USD should have different branding for the University and for its athletic dept. For athletics I am a big fan of the Paw with the U in it. USD should keep that logo and never change. Iowa has the Tigerhawk, Nebraska the red N, South Dakota should define itself with the Paw.

actually I really dislike the paw unless they revamp it. I looks like the paw off an old beagle or something. Get something more menacing than a paw with short little claws. There are many ways to make a Coyote fearful than the pansy logo that USD has on it's helmets now.

I wasn't really a big fan on the U. either. Plus everyone non USD made fun of us for it anyway. I remember SDSU kids having some creative tshirts about it several years ago when it came out.

My initial reaction is not favorable. I think the logo needs to include all 3 letters - USD. Perhaps something along the line of the old logo from many years ago with the U on top and SD on the bottom.
Tried to find a link with some of the old logos, but didn't have any luck. If anybody could find such a link, it would be much appreciated.

The one good thing is without the U, it will be harder to mess up the University of San Diego with USD haha. Granted, now many people just think the padres have a camp in the DakotaDome.

Also - what do you think in terms of how this will be used on FB helmet. I would think the SD would be in white on the red helmet. Is there a chance they could switch to a white or silver helmet with a red SD?

I hope not. Need to keep the red helmets.

Agreed, I say go with the red helmets with white letters and black trim. That might be the best to do with a bad situation...

I like the new logo.
I don't like the idea of black included in the logo - our colors are red and white. That's all I want to see.

Per the latest alumni newsletter, "The Coyote Connection":
In partnership with (Sioux Falls) Scheels, USD will have an in-store event to promote the official release of newly branded apparel and merchandise on Aug. 27. Scheduled appearances include USD athletes, coaches, Charlie Coyote, USD cheerleaders and the USD pep band. There will also be drawings, giveaways and a Yippin Yote (kids club) sign up area. Details, including times, are still being finalized

"... the official release of newly branded apparel and merchandise on Aug. 27."
I guess that explains why I couldn't find any new logo gear when I was back in Vermillion a few weeks back. I should have better luck when I'm there the week after Christmas. And I should get to see the ORU and SUU basketball games, if I can read the Summit schedule properly.
