Well, it's finally here, Opening Day of the baseball season. Somehow it seemed to kind of sneak up on me, probably due to this extended winter. My team, the Chicago Cubs, don't open until tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley. Pregame show at 12:45 first pitch at 1:20 on 1570 The Ticket.
I have to admit there is a little more spring to my step and excitement in the air today. I'm going to give my breakdown of the 2011 Chicago Cubs in the Offical Chicago Cubs thread later today. I'll give you a hint, This Is the Year! I know there are many Twins fans around here so I hope one of you starts up a 2011 Twins thread.
Happy Opening Day!

I bought the MLB at Bat 11 app for my Droid phone. Freaking awesome. I don't subscribe to MLBtv so I can't get live streaming video (you can with this app, and I might just get it) but I do get every games radio broadcast both home and away teams. Last night I listened to the Dodgers/Giants and flipped back and forth between the two broadcast. Vin Scully is like listening to a poet. For $15 this is a must have for baseball fans. I just plug my phone into my radio, pop in headphones, or just listen through the phone's speaker. Game on anytime, anywhere.
Oh, if you don't have a smart phone, you need one. I used to think they weren't necessary now wouldn't live without it.

I'm a Giants fan, but Scully is the best.
I got At Bat 11, too. It's a little different listening to the Cubs without Ron Santo. (He was as far away from Scully's level of professionalism as possible, but he certainly made his mark on Cubs radio.)
And I know he's been dead four years, but Twins games don't sound right to me without Herb Carneal.

I completely agree with you on the Twins now sounding right without Herb. John Gordon is still okay to good, not great anymore, and he is retiring this year and he is broadcasting a limited schedule this year.
Dan Gladden is one of the worst play-by-play guys in the majors and he doesn't offer much as a color guy either.
