The women have/will scrimmage Iowa State. (Likely the only way Fennelly will ever have his team play the Coyote women) and the men scrimmage Mankato tomorrow in Sioux Falls. Hey, at least he recognizes that his team will be better from having the Yotes expose weaknesses. There are plenty of P-5 programs not afraid to schedule the Yotes that realize the NET ranking benefits. Hell, (preseason #12) ISU is playing the Jacks again this year. (The Clones lost in Brookings last year ranked #15 at the time)

I'm hearing that it happened yesterday (Oct 31) at the Sukup BB practice facility in Ames. Update: I just heard from a post on CycloneFanatic that USD "won" the scrimmage by double-digits. No idea if the source is credible, of course. If anyone else has info, feel free to share.

The "Reaching the Summit Podcast" did a two-part WBB coaches interviews too PART 1PART 2Do yourself a favor and check out these great (and short) interviews. Here are some quotes that I liked (I'll try to be less comprehensive....) Coach Sinn, UST:"You are who you surround yourselves with. And so we get an opportunity to surround ourselves with these phenomenal teams..." Coach Gravina, WIU:"Scheduling is such an important thing, and a complicated process. After we had that NCAA tournament appearance, and then that next year we beat Stanford, and had some big wins, ... it really (sets) scheduling back for three years. Because you have some teams that don't want to play against you, or your style, ... and now we finally have normalized (which is good and bad). I'd like to go back to the point where we have a hard time scheduling teams..." question: what's the team motto this year? "You know, we don't have one. That's a funny question. You know, I'm a big anti-cliche guy. I'm almost to the point where I'm so anti-cliche that it's almost cliche..." Coach P, USD:"Those four (Krull, Watson, Hansen, Masurek) are ones that we've seen a good deal of improvement from last year to this one...." question: with Claudia graduating, who is your hype-woman this year? "...That's a role that Maddie Krull has filled for us this past year, and Morgan Hansen... and Macy Guebert, she's not maybe as loud our boisterous,... and Jeniah has been around... she's a very vocal player. It's been a group effort." Coach Banks, Omaha:"We have five freshmen, and two transfers, so we will be a little bit young this year..." "We've placed a lot of emphasis on getting better defensively... I just think that that is something you can control. Our 3-point defense percentage was horrendous last year.... it was important to me that we really improve in that area."

KC coach Hoyt: "I dont' know what's worse, getting beat by 20 or by 1. I definitely lose some sleep over those close games.... last year we just were not consistent. It was a tough year for us to get a rhythm, and have that consistency."
question: you were a stud in HS, and played at Wichita State; do you still get up and down the court in practice? "What you did not read is that my college career got ended from injuries...I've got terrible knees, grandma knees...had four ACL tears... but I AM really good at "horse", so I'll still beat them at horse."
"I hate candy corn. It's just gross. I can't believe people still eat that."
Denver Coach Woods: question: what specifically was the issue defensively last year? "Jordan, it was everything! Last year we struggled with our transition defense. We played about 60-40 man vs. zone, but towards the end, we just started to muck it up. We didn't have time to practice like I wanted to. This year we are focusing on basic man defense, and just basically contesting shots."
SDSU Coach Johnston: "Everyone always asks me about Mayah Selland, how she is doing. She's doing really good. It's too early to say she will be back on 'this date', but we would expect her to have a fairly full season..."
"...Typically our new players jump into a really tough non-conference schedule. So Paige and Halleigh have been fantastic, but their learning curve has to be quick..."
"...We need to be a little more explosive offensively. I thought we were a really good half-court offensive team (last year)... I think we can improve our perimeter shooting"
UND Coach Bernhardt: "Last year we had 4 OT games, we lost two regulation games by less than 4 points, and there were four or five more that were under double-digits. It's crazy how many games like that we were in, and did NOT come out on the right end of those.... Shooting-wise, we were not where we needed to be, and just taking care of the ball..."
