Some highlight quotes from the coaches' interviews:
#10 U St. Thomas HC Ruth Sinn:
"(The Summit League is) Bigger. Faster. Stronger... It's a great league... the athletes are in great condition... you can tell that they love the game...they play the game with their whole self, and they're 'all in'... everybody from the top to the bottom. We're really excited to go into a league like that."
"We've got a healthy Kaia Porter back... she missed part of her Junior year. She will be a phenomenal contributor for us, both on and off the court."
"Erin Norling (grad transfer) is going to do a great job for us."
"Every single day we are going to get better, improve, and take a step closer to maximizing our potential. With that, who knows what will happen?"
Kaia Porter (5-11 Senior Forward):
"We understand the physicality of the game is another level. We have to be ready to give it back to teams, cause we know we're gonna get hit in the lane, on the perimeter, wherever. It's a very physical league."
"I'm playing for so much more than myself... it's trying to set up our program... to continue that legacy of excellence, and that culture we've created here....

#9: UND coach Mallory Bernhardt:
"We took a good hard look in the mirror, and addressed the things we felt we fell short in last year... We spent a lot of time working on skill development... trying to hone in on those individual skills..."
"We have a lot of new faces... we brought in players that we thought could address the things we need to fix right away. We need to continue to address the shooting, and (brought in some) hard-nosed, tough players... We brought in Jolene Daninger from DePaul. She's gonna handle the point position, but also (help with) shooting. We brought in Sammiyah Hoskin from Detroit Mercy. Tough Player... We brought in Deja Davis from JC, who might be able to help us at that point spot too, but really added defensive presence for us..."
6'-2" Junior Forward, Olivia Lane:
"Winning two games last year, that was kind-of in our heads... we were very close in (many) games. This year we are working on, when we're in those (close game) situations, what can we do to have a better outcome?"
"It's a clean slate. We can't look back on our record last year..."

#8 Omaha coach Carrie Banks
"To see the work pay off the way it did (in the SLT), is really a testament to their perseverance."
"We have some very talented returners... and we have seven new kids..."
"We're gonna be a little younger on the perimeter... but I just think their talent and energy, fearlessness, all those things cover a lot of ground..."
"We had a lot of close games last year... that we just didn't close out... Hopefully this year I don't think people will take us for granted as much..."
Elana Pilakouta, 6-3 senior center:
"I don't want to base my role on how many points I'm scoring, or how many minutes I'm playing. I just want to focus on being the best teammate I can, and help my team win. If that's (about scoring) points, then that's what it's gonna be like. If it's cheering on my teammates, then that's what I want to focus on. It can be different from game to game, and I'm here to help my team win. At the end of the day, that's what I care about."

#7 Western Illinois coach JD Gravina:
"We're always looking for more scoring around the basket, both from dribble-penetration and back-to-the-basket scoring... Evan (Zars) will continue to pick up her scoring, I think Danni Nichols will be getting to the basket a little bit more, especially after losing Grace Gilmore."
"We're always going to be a team that's a little under-sized, and hopefully a little over-skilled. We're always going to shoot a lot of 3-pointers... We've got a lot of kids that can shoot it, and analytically that's one of the better plays in basketball."
"(this summer) we completely changed how we taught our offense... We went from the bigger concepts of our spacing and movement first, and then focused more on the intricacies of angles and reading screens. So we flip-flopped it. I really think that has helped... I think we are going to move the ball better than we have in the last couple of years."
"We've been slowly but surely transitioning away from our match-up (zone) defense. With the scouting and video resources, if one team figures something out, then everyone's figured it out. [ I see that with my Kansas City Chiefs...] I always believe in kind-of re-inventing the wheel. We'll probably still throw in some zone, but we also have a really good personnel to play man-to-man defense. I think this is my best defensive team I've had in quite a while. So I'm excited about it. It'll help our rebounding. And i really feel like you have more control to buckle-down defense.
Evan Zars, 6'-2 senior forward:
"...I do think we have a chance to be a really competitive team this year. We've always had the ability to put up a lot of points, but I think that something that will help us out a lot, and take a lot of pressure off is defense. It's something that you always have a lot of control over. On offense, you might miss some shots, you might make some shots, but every game you can go in and play strong defense. I think that will make us that much more competitive this year."

#6 ORU coach Misti Cussen
"We've got 18 players on our roster this year because of our 3 super-seniors returning. With Keni (Jo Lippe), Regan (Schumacher) and Manaya Jones. And only two true freshman, as opposed to 8 last year. There's more experience, more knowledge."
"Tierney (Coleman) was definitely that athletic player that, with the ball in her hands she was able to average 14-15 points a game in conference play. She ended up being a 40% plus 3-point shooter in conference play. She wasn't doing that early in the season...This offseason has been about a defensive transformation for Tierney... She's got to get her defense to match what she can do offensively in order for her to be a productive player in our system."
"I'd keep them (Keni and Regan) for five more years if I could. Every coach has players like that... You almost begin to lean on them like you would a staff member... We give them a lot of responsibility with communication and leadership...
5'-9" senior guard Keni Jo Lippe:
"I love basketball. I love ORU... I just wasn't ready to let it go yet..."
"I think that facing adversity with aggression and with an excitement to face that adversity (will help us make that next step)."

#5 Denver coach Doshia Woods:
"...We don't do captains. My goal is to put everybody in a leadership position..."
"...We definitely like to shoot. We like to get up minimum 30 threes a game... in our motion offense we try to score quick and easy... defensively we are just trying to at least clean up a little bit... we like to play fast, free, and have fun."
"The conference doesn't have a 'most improved player', but if they did, Anna Jackson would have gotten it...And a lot of credit to Meghan (Boyd) and Uju (Ezedu). Frankly, there were about five games where I had to sit them down. I didn't play them for long stretches, didn't start them, just because the culture was important to me. So to see how they've responded, not only to me, but being able to lead their teammates, I couldn't be more proud of those two. And then... with Anna, those three are the three I rely heavily upon, and I expect a lot of... both on and off the court... I can't wait to see them flourish..."
6'-2" Junior Forward Uju Ezedu:
"One of the first things (coach Woods) said when she came here was that she wanted to change the cultre...It needed to be in a positive direction... She's a player's coach, but she's not a pushover. She believes in what she says, but lets us put our input in as well... It's great having a coach that listens to the players. Her having a positive attitude, and also being level-headed and calm in high-tense situations, she's a great leader for this team."
"In High School and AAU I've always seen myself as a very back-to-the-basket kind of player, post-wise...(Woods) kind-up helped me... explore my outside game...Being under her, I'm definately flourishing..."

#4 Kansas City coach Jacie Hoyt:
"In this conference, you have to be at your best every game. There are no teams that are gonna beat themselves. You have to find ways to win... Understanding that will pay off going forward."
"You have to have the players capable of playing at a high level... In the offseason we've found some players that we think can do that."
"If you look at the history of the conference, how many teams have made the postseason in the last 5 years, and the NCAA tournament, that's hard to do. So it's not an easy task... but our team is ready for the challenge."
"I thought that we benefited from the transfer portal in the best way possible, because we had our core players come back... but we were also able to add on some really nice additions."
"We are a very veteran team, and that has been fun to coach..."
Mandy Willems, 5'-9" senior guard:
"Sometimes the gym matters (for shooting well)... other than that, you just have to have a good mindset every night to be ready to shoot."
"(Coming in to the Summit) was definitely a big adjustment for us, just going in every single night, and battling with every team. Every team is a tough opponent."
"I think we've got a pretty good shot at shaking things up in the Summit League"

#3 NDSU coach Jory Collins:
"This is a year where we have some returners, finally. A really good core group that were young players last year, that made a significant impact on our program..."
"Part of that (ball security issue) was that we had new ball-handlers, young ball-handlers, and just a young group in a lot of areas. Especially on the perimeter... I didn't feel like we were starting from scratch this year, and were able to build upon last year in a much better way..."
"(Emily Dietz) has shown tremendous growth in her time here, and has become a major factor for us on both ends of the floor. She just does the right things, almost all the time. Our depth this year is going to be the best we've had. We feel like we have 10 players that we can play, and give good contributions. That's two or three more than we thought could be difference-makers before."
"The first 80% (of the conference) seems to be the easy part, going from #3 to #1 is a heck of a lot harder than going from #9 to #3. The attention to detail that takes to go from 'pretty good' to the best, you're asking that much more out of your team, and your players. So we've upped the attention to detail, and the accountability in some areas. Hopefully that pays off for us down the stretch."
Heaven Hamling, 5'-8" junior guard:
"We just kinda went up (to the tournament), and played the best we can, and shocked a lot of teams. But now that they know what we've got, we've just got to execute everything way better than we did last year. To be more precise in our plays, and just execute offense and defense, and not turning the ball over as much to give ourselves extra opportunities."

#2 SDSU coach Aaron Johnston:
"Defensively, we have some real core principles that we try to put in every single year... On the defensive side, there's probably some small tweaks every year, but there's a plan in place... On the offensive side of the ball, I think we're quite a bit different each year to fit our personnel...there's just a lot of ways to play offense..."
"This year's team, like some of our past ones, is going to be very versatile. Our guard play has taken some steps forward from last year. We have two freshmen, Haleigh Timmer and Paige Meyer, we expect both of them will help us and be able to play big roles for us... Our forward group is deeper than we were. Kallie Theisen is back, and healthy now. Mesa Byom is back with another year of experience, Paiton Burckhard's in there, Tori and Mayah can play at some different positions, so there's a lot of versatility at that forward position..."
"I do think we have to play a little faster tempo this year. Last year I felt we were more of a half-court, grind-it-out team. We've gotta be a little more consistent with our shooting percentages this year. So we're trying to find the right plan to help those things move forward."
"(Myah) is starting to do some on-court activities. Is she ahead or behind (schedule)? ... Everybody is a little bit different. We would expect her to play an awful lot this year. I certainly don't thing she will have to miss a lot of time. We expect her back, and real close to healthy."
Tylee Irwin, 6'-0" senior guard:
"...As a freshman, playing behind Macy, Maddie, and all those seniors every year kind of just set the tone for me... having them to practice against every day... really helped me grow as a player. I had to grow defensively a lot. That was the main thing as a freshman and sophomore, was that to play, I was gonna need to play defense and rebound... I've improved at that. The scoring, I'd say, just comes down to roles changing."

#1 USD coach P:
"Those three super-seniors... are not only great basketball players, but incredible teachers to their younger teammates. In practice, they'll stop and instruct and help them, but they also lead by example in so many other ways off the court. Also, Reagan Sankey is doing a tremendous job of taking on that leadership side of our program that she hasn't done before."
"One thing that's an advantage for those 'super-freshmen' and our true freshmen, is that ... they are practicing with and against some great players, and that's only gonna make them better."
"Every game is important, and it starts with our non-conference schedule. It's loaded with some great mid-majors, and some great power-5 teams. Teams from different conferences, different styles of play, different venues... This is a veteran group that is excited for that challenge, will compete in those challenges, but also a group that will continue to learn and get better through all of that. And that's what's important... to build into our conference season."
Hannah Sjerven, 6'-2" Senior Center:
"Losing to Oregon in the tournament like that just left a sour taste, and I didn't want that to be the end of my career here at USD..."
"For a while now, our goal has been to make it to the tournament, and win a game. And we haven't been able to do that second part. I'm definitely feeling like there's unfinished business in the tournament."
