I think Lee maxed out the performance of this roster and he has alluded to it in interviews. I’m actually proud of the season they had after losing their two best players from last year and little roster change. It is up to coach Lee to build a deeper stronger roster and I think they will get there. I could care less if sdsu makes the dance. They have a tendency to sleep walk some games so maybe they will tomorrow night. Not impressed with Hendo as a coach but they do get some recruits up in cow town.

(Insert very long and negative diatribe about Coyote athletics with no paragraphs)
Oh, wait. I guess that poster is no longer here. Well, nobody was going to read that garbage anyway.

Tip of the hat to SDSU - that was their night. I think they have could drop-kicked half court shots and it would have gone in. One thing I noticed that no one has brought up is the experience level - Yotes seemed tired and unable to adjust to tournament style defense (more grabbing/holding). The youth was apparent.

We need to recruit better and we need better support from coyote fans in Sioux Falls.

How long does he get to improve? I'm skeptical that progress is coming and will remain a disengaged fan until I see reason to be optimistic. I still show up, but I haven't been excited in a long time.

I still show up, but I haven't been excited in a long time. I agree with both posts 100%. I’m proud of how this program battled this season and finished strong - But they hit their ceiling Sunday night. One difference I noticed this year is that the team looked to have bought into Lee’s defensive scheme and were very resilient. Up to this point, the team never seemed to excel on defense, despite Lee stating that as a coaching strength. That was encouraging to see. The part where I struggle is the recruiting. Our inability to get over the hump in the Summit League shows we are losing the recruiting battle horribly. I’ve mentioned this before, but, when was the last time we had a big, physical basketball team? Also, is it just me, or does anyone else look at these other rosters and notice that a majority of their talent is based on four - five year players that come straight out of high school? I’m not a recruiting expert by any means, but the constant carrousel of JUCO transfers seems to prevent us from building continuity in our program. I almost feel like every year is a rebuild. I’m not calling for Lee’s job. I support him and will continue to. I appreciate that he is a USD guy through and through and, like previous posts stated, the “basketball guys” say he knows his stuff - and I trust them. But I want to win.

We need to recruit better and we need better support from coyote fans in Sioux Falls. Agree. With the exception of the die hards, members of this board, engaged fans/donors, etc., a majority of U fans accept losing and never expect to win.

We need to recruit better and we need better support from coyote fans in Sioux Falls. The turnout last night was about what I expected and realistically a pretty fair reflection of the ratio in SF and the rest of the state. As much as that sucks. We've had this discussion several times before, but we're just outnumbered. That is the nature of the beast. It's a farming state and they're a farming school. One that also accepts basically any resident with a pulse. It makes sense that they historically have a bigger fan base. Moving to D1 first put them over the top and we still haven't caught up. It will take years of sustained successes and consistently beating them to begin to bring back the balance.

One thing that is humorous that a friend mentioned last night. Remember a few years ago when Mooney was on the team, and SDSU fans would make fun of us because we claim to be South Dakota but had no one from in state on the roster? Anyone hearing that lately? Granted they have Freidel, but we have a starter from SD and they don’t but we don’t seem to hear that as much. It’s almost like it never actually mattered.

Despite the differences in fan bases, what else helps build enthusiasm? Winning. Example: our womens program

I just get sick of the comments about their fans having the good seats so why bother coming, etc. heard some of that in the alumni room and I just don’t buy it anymore. It’s an excuse. The upper level was 90% jacks fans. Again, they expected to win last night and rightfully so. But, the opportunities to support our teams are certainly there.

We need to recruit better and we need better support from coyote fans in Sioux Falls. It seems like every year sdsu has a true frosh come in that plays a significant role. Then they turn into Coyote killers for 3-4 years First it was Daum, then Jenkins, then Wilson, then Friedel, now the Mayo kid. When is the last time we had a freshman play a significant role and really be a foundational player for us for several years? It happens all over the country it seems, just not in Vermillion. Stan played as a true freshman, but we had Mooney who dominated the ball and he didn't get a lot of opportunity. Have we been to focused on transfer players? Too hesitant to let young guys play a big role?

Stan played about 30 minutes his entire freshman year.
But I do agree.

Stan played about 30 minutes his entire freshman year. But I do agree. You beat me to it. I looked it up, and he averaged 3.4 minutes and 1.1 ppg, while appearing in 14 games as a freshman. I recall their being frustration among the fans over the fact that he didn't redshirt that year. He was a total non-factor.

It was his choice not to RS. Smith wanted to, Stan didn’t.
