She's no longer on the roster and I've heard from numerous people that she's committed to West Virginia.
Glad to see Maddie still on the roster! Maddie has an opportunity to leave an incredible legacy as a Coyote!

Do we know for sure that Maddie is staying?

Do we know for sure that Maddie is staying? Until we see an announcement that she has removed her name from the portal, there's a chance she'll go to WVU or any other school.

That's what I was thinking. I wondered if the original poster had heard some buzz about her staying. I guess no news is not bad news, but not necessarily good news.

Though what I heard wasn't as definitive as Kyah, I have heard Maddie is likely gone as well, though not necessarily to WVU. She is still taking visits.
That would leave them with 12 players, so three open scholarships. I expect Kayla will bring in at least one through the portal.

I'm hearing most likely Nebraska or West Virginia. I haven't really looked in the portal myself to see who we might be targeting. Hopefully we are able to snag a good one.

Just saw that she was still on the roster. I'll just say this. Grass isn't always greener on the other side. I remember Jaycee Bradley transferring from South Dakota to the BIG 12 (TCU). South Dakota went on to make the NCAA Tournament. While TCU never did. Something to think about when these kids get caught up with this stuff.

I'm in agreement that the grass isn't always greener. Obviously it is their choice to make. But both Maddie and Kyah were primed to have a significantly expanded offensive role at USD and to basically step up as leaders of an outstanding program. Personally, it seems like it would be hard to walk away from that.

So it appears to be trophy chasing or they don’t trust their own abilities to get it done here so looking for some greener grass. Or their loyalty is to Coach P and if that’s the case it is what it is. They are the ones putting in the blood sweat and tears. So it has to be what they want. But man the days of loyalty and building an actual legacy are hard to find. Hopefully these girls that stayed bring that loyalty and continue that great culture that is building here!

I tend to agree with the overall gist in that I don't get the attraction of leaving on the heels of a Sweet 16 run when you're the only returning starters.
That said, I don't know the situation. I know the Watson family comes from North Carolina. That may play into the decision. Obviously, Watson and Plitzuweit are close. That plays into the decision. Maybe the success she had going head to head with the Big 12 POY in the tournament made her decide that with that kind of night-in, night-out competition and exposure she can become a pro. I don't know.
All I do know is that she's a kid making a choice that she wants to make. We can all agree or disagree with that choice but it's hers to make ... and I would humbly advise that her hometown has been very, very good to the U's women's program over the years and I would think that it would continue to be arguably the most fertile recruiting ground in the state. So keep that in mind when posting opinions about a kid from that town on a public board for other kids from that town to read.
Good luck to Miss Watson.

Best of luck to Kyah at West Virginia and to Dawn and the rest of the Mountaineers. We'll do our own thing here, continue to support our Yotes, and hopefully we'll continue on the trajectory we have been on. We have capable girls on the roster, capable recruits coming in, and an exciting and dynamic young coach and recruiter in Karius. The future is still bright here in Vermillion. I'm not going to lose much sleep over this or dwell on it much after the dust settles.

Selfishly, I am disappointed she's leaving because I enjoyed watching her play and looked forward to her being a big part of things at USD in the future. From an outsider's perspective, I may not totally understand the decision. But it's her decision, not mine. And none of us are privy to all the factors that went into it. At the end of the day, I wish her well and hope she excels at her new basketball home.
