For those who may have missed it, we spent an entire episode of Benchwarmers talking USD football this week. John Thayer and Brock Mogensen joined us. Hopefully it helps whet your appetites a bit. Is it September yet?

I watched it last night. It was good.
I had to laugh--Tom Nieman (the 1000% bunnie booster) was not happy with Jay Elsen for having the USD hail Mary pass that beat state in the Coyote highlights Twice!
So watch it to the end---priceless!!

Of course he represents a fanbase, but Midco does a great job of putting professionals in the booth and studio.

Tom actually put all the video together for that show. I just gave him a list of talking points. I watched it last night. It was good. Nieman and everyone at Midco does a great job staying impartial when doing their jobs. It’s us fans of schools who bring the bias.

This has me fired up. I almost wish they would have waited a couple weeks because now I'm all pumped up for football and have to wait a month.
I know that play with sick with Nieman for a long time and I love it. But seriously, we are really blessed to have Midco and their broadcast teams. I don't know how other parts of the country cover FCS football, but I doubt it's as well as we have it here. I can actually guarantee it after watching dozens of road games through the ESPN app where they picked up some garbage stream from who knows where.

One one hand I commend broadcasts (like WIU) that give students a chance. But just sync your game with John Thayer to do yourself a favor no matter what.

There's plenty of high school games every Friday if they want to play broadcaster. It's a bad look on the university and it makes the FCS look ridiculous to anybody that stumbles on the ESPN feed. There may not be a good solution to the problem, but there has to be something they can do to improve a little bit at least.

I agree, it is a bad look when you listen to a broadcast like at WIU. It emphasizes why we are so lucky with MIDCO.
I do wish we had the ability to get more football information. An example is during spring ball there was one photo shoot. Virtually nothing else. The Coyote Brotherhood will get a zoom tomorrow night From Coach, but what about everyone else?
It is a negative on the recruiting front as well. Player's parents can't follow their sons when compared to our Peers in the MVFC. Take a look at how SDSU and NDSU communicates. Maybe Nielson does communicate more but it is targeted and i haven't heard about it. But overall the department should be emphasizing football more.

Might be chicken and egg scenario. Which comes first, more staff to create hype that leads to ticket sales, or ticket sales lead to more staff?

I think we'd all like more information and media about football, and the other programs for that matter. But I don't think we're far off from what the other teams in the league are doing on that front. Spring ball is spring ball, it's for the team not the fans. As a former player and current fan, I'm conflicted on it because I'm always interested in whatever content is published, but I get it. It's practice. Come September, we'll have plenty of media and content about football. The unfortunate reality is, we're not a big ten program that's going to have a full write up every day of fall camp and a dozen different blog sites dedicated to Coyote football. Be patient folks, we're a month away from planning our weekends around what time tailgating opens and watching that "your event is about to begin" screen on ESPN+. At that point, we'll have plenty of articles to argue about and polls to disagree with. Until then, let's appreciate what our sports media folks are putting out.
