Last night i watched last years Louisville/USD match on youtube. a couple things stuck out to me. USD had a LOT of overpasses. lots of easy points going directly to Louisville. I dont see that happening this year. I think we'll be winning some of those points this time. Second, Harms did not play last year. This year she will. Shes the best middle we have, hence anyone that was put in last year for her didnt quite do as good of a job. 3rd. last years covid tournament. The Colorado one which was to be our first matches of the season. It was a washout for us, where as Louisville got to play in a tournament that weekend. So when we met, its was USD's first match of the year. It was Lousisville's fourth. This year we will be on equal terms for games under our belt. So, something this morning caught my eye. Next years Louisville match, might even be closer yet. released this morning is an online article about Summit league players to watch this year. Juhnke and harms were mentioned....as 4th year juniors. Looks to me like possibly we know about who is taking covid years next year. Then i went to the roster and Juhnke, Harms, and Paumen are all listed as juniors now. Adams is the only senior identified as such. and when i clicked on 2021 roster....they were all listed as juniors. And if they come back, they will be facing Louisville again next fall

That's probably a good sign as it relates to having two strong starting middles both this year and next. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bench player or two transfer out after this season due to the three 5th-year players. That's understandable. Happy to have those three back for a 2023 title-run...

Well, Louisville is what they is: a national title contender. I’d call that a good showing!

Well that played out about like I thought it would. The family and I had a great time regardless of the outcome. My wife is a former vballer and she commented several times just how far the program has come over the years. From setting up cheap plastic fencing so balls don't roll to the other end of the football field to now bringing in national championship caliber teams and playing in front of almost 3000 people. I thought the crowd and atmosphere was great. The part I couldn't stop smiling about was the student section. I've been to a pile of games in the SCSC and very few times has the student section been overflowing. They were there, they were loud and I loved it. I don't know what was said to get the students engaged and over to the facility on a Friday night, but let's try and repeat that process for all the events this fall.
As for the game itself, the Yotes were just outmatched. They really struggled to hit around the block early, then started trying to hit high off their hands and ended up sailing a lot of balls long. The other thing I noticed is we got stuck in that rotation with Juhnke in the back row a lot.
Overall, I saw a lot of good things and think this team is poised for another big season and run at the conference.

This was a great thing for our program and fans. Louisville I believe will play in the NCAA title game this December. They are talented, tall, and they are fast. Plus they are well coached. Very few teams in America could play with this team. From our side of things the sets to our outside need to go further outside. That way if the block is there, the left side can “tool” the block as opposed to trying to cut the ball or hit over the top. That’s why this match was so good to have. We’ll see what we do well and correct and work on the things we don’t do as well.
Our gals played their butts off. They competed hard. They weren’t intimidated in the sense they knew they were outgunned, but rather played extra hard to compensate their shortcomings. This team can be REALLY GOOD.
My biggest fear is 2700 people came to the match and if you don’t understand the talent of our opponent maybe walked away thinking we’re not that good. On a national level, I would guess we could play with and beat teams ranked 12th and higher. The top 5-6 are all really exceptionally good. The next 6 are close to that, then it levels off.
If you’re not a volleyball fan in the sense of understanding on a national level, look at it this way. USD playing Louisville is the football equivalent of playing Ohio State. It was a FANTASTIC atmosphere last night. Band, cheerleaders and a loud student body. Welcome back “old school fandom”
