Good stuff! And if I'm not mistaken, the completion of this project will free up space in the Dome for the final phase of that makeover!
Again, I'm just going from memory, but a remodel of the west side of the dome would free up space for a wider, more generous concourse, hall-of-fame, and athletic admin/ coaching offices? something like that, anyway.
Sounds like the Aquatic facilities also will include some amenities for students? Nothing wrong with that.

Are they planning on an addition to the dome extending to the east? Also, are they keeping the existing swimming facilities in the dome for the student body to use, other than the swim/dive team?

They would make the concourse wider by removing the pool, if I’m not mistaken.

Last I heard was that once the new pool is built it will be for everyone on campus, not just athletics. So once it’s finished the old pool will be filled in and then they can lower the ceiling and widen the concourse.
The current pool is a massive money pit and leaks hundreds of gallons a day according to a former friend who swam for USD. They have no plans on keeping it a pool.

I had heard the same about leaking hundreds of gallons a day from a USD facilities employee, and that was around the time the SCSC opened. Glad we are finally able to move forward on this.

I just realized I said west, not east. The west side of the dome is completed, of course. It’s the east side that will be the focus of the final phase of dome remodeling.
Really amazing how quickly the sports facilities master plan has all come to fruition. Lots of hard work behind the scenes by the administrators, fund raising, and donors.
And all us fans are asked to do is show up, and buy tickets.
Time to show up.

Am I right that new football turf needs to be purchased when there is sufficient funds?

When the dome was built, the original plans were to have a much larger pool with more seating and other amenities. Due to budget issues, various elements of the overall project had to be scaled back, and the swimming pool portion took the brunt of it. They considered leaving it our entirely, but couldn't because the domes funding was based on hitting a number of checkboxes which included having "a" pool that could be used for the swimming and diving program along with other physical fitness classes. It was also going to be made available for non university functions and community uses. My kids were Snowfox swimmers when they were young and I remember having a couple of club swim meets there. Everyone hated the place so after a couple of meets there, it was decided that it was best to not try to use it for that purpose. The new pool is long overdue and will be a welcomed addition to the many fine facilities on the USD campus.

This is good news. I will say that while they are at it they should just include an expansion of the Wellness Center. It is heavily used at almost all hours of the day. It doesn't matter what time I go there, 10AM, 1PM, 4PM. 8PM, the place is pretty full. You could probably almost double it in size to make it more adequate.
Might as well begin plans for Phase 3 renovations right now.

Might as well begin plans for Phase 3 renovations right now. I graduated in 2018 and remember hearing they have plans to expand the courts and gym floor. I’m not sure if they’ve scrapped those I imagine right now they’re focusing on some other items, I think renovating the residence halls is currently being completed. But I agree I used to try and schedule my days so I could get to the gym during the non peak times. They desperately need some more space and equipment for the size of campus/community.
