Yes, it is a significant move from a wholistic point of view, but it doesn't affect this season at all, so let's stick to this football team. Any word on how the practices are going? Has anyone been able to get eyes on the progress of position groups? How is the QB play looking, since that was a major concern at the backup spot after the spring? How do we look upfront on both sides, are their any significant changes or progress being made? Also, how are the WR and DBs coming along? We already know that the RBs, LBs, and DBs are in a good place starter and depth-wise going into the 1st game. Would love to hear some inside info. Defensively we are look pretty solid, offensively not so much. An inexperienced offensive line creates a domino effect. When your QB’s biggest weakness is mobility and you have an inexperienced OLine it clearly puts a ton of pressure on the RB’s . And we are solid at RB. But at some point you have to take a chance down field. I’ve seen a few practices and hitting the checkdown to the RB seems to be the common theme. We lack depth at WR in my opinion but our top three are solid. Bell is as good as it gets, Phelps is a tall big target with a year under his belt as a starter and Martens is a fearless slot that doesn’t drop balls. But we clearly lack depth at WR. I have yet seen or heard on clear back up to Bouman. Just an opinion from what I’ve seen and heard.

smh It’s always the offensive line with this program. Hopefully, this just means that our defensive line is awesome.

I guess I just don't see the angst with the offensive line. Alex Jensen, who was very good, is gone but Erbes and Lombard, who are both multiyear starters, are back along with about five others who have starting experience. Plus, there's the transfer from Texas Tech who I imagine would have some chops. I will say the backups will be inexperienced, but they have been around for a while so we shouldn't have to rely on any true freshmen. Also, I do think the defensive line is going to be good.

I hope you’re right. Offensive line has just been our Achilles heel for far too long for me to believe in pre-season hype. Also for whatever it’s worth, Zimmer was saying on his podcast that the coaches like what they seeing out of our transfer wideouts (Tristan Michaud (Iowa State) and Cole Rhoden (Kansas)). It would be great for them to make an immediate impact.

Was at a practice two days ago. Yes, the Rhoden kid (transfer from Kansas) has some nice talent and can help this fall as a backup. There are a few other WRs that can help a little (#8, #10) and and provide some nice depth. No question, after watching yesterday, the Martens kid has improved speed-wise and the Bell kid is by far the best WR we have out there in all facets. Also, some nice young WRs too, but don't have a clue yet.
And from my perspective, Yes, the defensive line is playing really well and has some nice depth.

No angst here on the oline…. Big time respect for those guys but when I watched them it was a struggle. But maybe we are that good defensively

Here’s my 2 cents worth:
Offense always takes longer to gel than defense. That will never change. Been that way for 100 years and my guess is it will be that way in 2123.
IF the defense line has improved as much as some are saying then we should be fairly nasty all year. Our linebacker group is good, and we have the best lock down corner in the league.
I can’t say about where we’re at with O line, but I’m with elcoyote in that we have some experience there and the coaching this year is light years ahead of the past 5 years. The O-line as a position group has never been a strength. If we’ve improved, even modestly, then I see no reason we aren’t competitive in every game we play, even Missouri.
I’ve said this repeatedly over the years and I’ll say it again. What goes on inside the locker room is just as important as what goes on the field. I’m not predicting anything other than by saying I think we will be in every game we play, especially after the first game. I’m under the impression the mood has shifted. We are not afraid of anyone. They are believing in this new staff.
The last comment is “butts in seats”. We need passionate fans to fill the Dome. We get made fun of by our crappy attendance and the criticism is warranted. I truly want our kids to play in a full and loud Dome. We can do it. It’s a mindset for sure. We have to win back our respect one game at a time.

I’ve talked myself into believing that we’ll have a stingy defense this year that can keep us in just about every game we play. Keeping Myles Harden healthy for a full season would be massively beneficial.

What a home field advantage if we could somehow get people in tbe seats

Looking forward to my familiar seats on the old side (best side) of the dome. I doubled down and bought an extra pair this year and plan on bringing friends as often as I can. As far as "butts in seats", let's have an exciting brand of winning football this year and the stands will fill themselves. Remember the Streveler years? Bring back the big plays and the wins and people will show up. As the saying goes, build it and they will come.

It never fails, end of August rolls around and my mind gets consumed by Coyote football. I lay in bed thinking about matchups, depth charts, what time Leo's opens on game days, etc. My question to the board: What does success look like to you this season? I think we can all agree that last season was a step backwards. The schedule is much kinder this year. For me, the goal is a playoff win. There's 8 regular season games on the schedule that I consider games we could/should win. Mizzou and the XDSUs will be uphill battles. Not saying we can't knock them off, but they are the toughest games on the schedule. 8 wins, a playoff berth, and a first round win would be exceptional. 6 or 7 wins and a trip to the playoffs would still be a success. Anything less then 6 wins and I will be very disappointed.

Good to know I’m not alone in my obsession. I think 6 regular season wins is the minimum for success, but hope for 7. I see 5 no-excuse games on our schedule. YSU, SIU, and UND look like toss ups, and two of those are at home. Obviously, circumstances will change throughout the season, but that’s how things look right now. I will hold on expecting a playoff win until I see that we’re in and know the matchup.
Otherwise, in general, I want to see a more consistent offense, a consistently stout defense, and no quit.

I'm keeping my expectations tempered, but it would be wonderful to still be excited about Coyote football in November as opposed to looking forward to basketball season for a change.
