It appears more and more like the upper echelon of D1 is going to break off into their own division per this NCAA proposal. Does it make sense for USD to get in an arms race with schools with a virtually unlimited pot of money? Should basketball, volleyball, etc go the same route of football with the FBS/FCS separation? If separate divisions, where do you draw the line? BIG & SEC Big 12 & ACC Big East Mountain West & AAC Sun Belt & MAC CUSA MVFC & Big Sky CAA & Southern Etc Also: Do all sports at a school need to be in the same conference? Do all sports at a school need to be in the same division?

Lots to unpack there. Not sure how I feel about it, but the NCAA seems to be trying to keep the P-5 under their control by allowing some autonomy. There is a movement from that top tier to just move on from the NCAA, and things are happening so fast and evolving with NIL money....
One thing that caught my eye was that for the top-tier P-5 subdivision, they are opening the possibility for those schools/conferences to set their own scholarship limits.... that would have profound impacts on sports like Men's Basketball with its impossibly small 13-scholarship limit.
Crazy times.

Personally, I think just football should make the move first if this were to happen. The NCAA could actually use the MVFC as a model for this. It’s absolutely unfair for Washington’s non-revenue sports (for example) to have the same travel requirements self-imposed by the football program.
