Was there Saturday, great crowd like stated earlier, really caused a lot of problems for the SUU o-line, esp. 65 who had a ton of penalties. The defense has played really well all season. Starr has made a huge impact and will continue to provide opportunities for himself and other d lineman to step up and make plays. Broders has been all around the ball as well, and the secondary has been solid. Having Thompson back this year with Potter in the back end helps a ton as well. His speed keeps teams from hitting the huge plays,(see early kickoff return in the second half forcing runner out of bounds, and making SUU earn a td, which they didn't get having a 3 and out and settling for a fg.) Between Thompson and Broders, they had 29 tackles a couple sacks and a fumble recovery.
I, too, expect that the offense should continue to feed Sims and his power one cut style. Being able to run the ball on the road is huge as well. They can and need to. This is a senior dominated, experienced group of players who have played a lot of great west football and competed against some pretty good D1 teams the last few years(UW, Air Force, and the South Florida team of last year). I really think this will be the year they get it done!
go yotes.

Ok, I am just recovered from the weekend, seriously.
The atmosphere outside the stadium before the game was phenomenal. I have never seen anything like it for a USD game. There were so many people, young and old alike, out tailgating, the place was packed, there were people everywhere. It was so awesome. Thing is every gameday could be like that, an event.
The Dome was full, believe the numbers. I heard the ticket office sold all but 400 tickets to the game. Keep in mind students don't buy tickets, they show a student ID, and they kept coming in droves. The bleacher side ran out of room and they diverted students into the permanent seating on the sides and top. We have tickets down low but have a couple friends who like to sit up top, they said it was full, and loud, and crazy.
I thought the Yotes played a great game. Offensively they pounded it down SUU throats. What was it, 55 rushing attempts? That's alot of running and it wasn't because we couldn't pass, it was because we were dominating on the ground. Better still, alot of that running was out of the I formation. This wasn't stretch/read/zone running, this was smash mouth/in your face running.
Defensively I thought it was outstanding. We finally have a defensive backfield that not only doesn't worry me, I think they are a strength. From what I heard in games SUU had against other Dakota teams the wind was a factor in hindering their pass game. No such issues in the Dome, it was the Coyote D that shut them down.
Hopeful we can keep it rolling at Illinois State and come back and have the exact same atmosphere for UC-Davis.

Good win against SUU. I said on here earlier in the year that I wasn't all that impressed with SUU when I watched them play. Anyone else agree? They seemed soft and if you could contain their passing attack they could easily be stopped.
Did they continually blitz up the middle against you guys? That's how they tried to contain SDSUs rushing attack and they threw a lot of sing passes that game.

Except for the fact that SUU just dominated UNLV, that does have to be taken into consideration, right?

Except for the fact that SUU just dominated UNLV, that does have to be taken into consideration, right? I suppose. I just wasn't impressed by them though. And I was asking if others, who were at the game, felt the same?

And I was asking if others, who were at the game, felt the same? Whatever makes you sleep better at night I guess. Gotta discredit it somehow right. Yeah, I guess when you beat UNLV, it doesn't mean anything, either. They didn't just beat them, they dominated them. It counts. Of course, I remember SDSU fans saying it was a pretty good win when it happened, but once USD plays them...things change quickly. It was a good win for both teams.

I don't claim to have a highly trained eye, but it seemed to me that SUU was a quality team--they impressed me more than EWU. They were definitely the most physical team to visit the dome yet this year.

I look at Southern Utah as average. UND might be improved but they needed to beat the Sioux at home IMO. They have also had a good win or two as well.

Solid, is the term I would use to describe SUU. Good team, capable of winning games. Not devastating world beaters, but I haven't seen or heard of an FCS team this season that fits that description this season. Every school has struggled some at some point in the season so far.

UNI and NDSU might be the exceptions. Both of those teams are awfully good I think.
I don't think we are in that caliber yet. I am beginning to think that FCS teams are alot like the BCS teams. The top 5-7 are really good, and after that, the teams are pretty darned good but not quite the same caliber.
But we are getting there. At least heading in the right direction

sorenseon was better then levi mitchell, his size kept plays alive when he should have been sacked. they have 3 losses 1 IMO was a hangover the week after unlv. and the other 2 were in hostile environments. and regaurdless of the fact that both us beat them doesnt make them a below avg team i think it speaks volumes to how movalley teams play at home and the fact that both defenses matched up well. The days of the yotes throwing the ball all over the place and scoring at will are over this team is built to win in a different way. pretty or not a dub is a dub.

NDSU has scuffled at times this year as well. They've won their games but some of the performances haven't been pretty. Bison fans even agree on this.
That said, I give them credit since good teams find a way to gut out the W even on days they don't have their best stuff.

Like the man said, "A dub is a dub". A winning record in may cases is based on matchups and luck - especially on the road. I'm more worried about UND than to 2 paper champions.
EWU and SUU were not very physical with passing games based on 3 to 5 yard passes and 15 to 20 yard runs after the catch. Our passing game just the opposite while pounding the run down their throats. The D-Line is smashing and the LB's are grabbin'. Our weakness is in the corners giving too much room underneath for those guys to catch and turn and our predictablilty in play calling, especially the passes. Will is doubled all day with the other guys covered tight.
Going forward, Ed and crew are recruiting quality kids with potential, and the training staff is developing them. They just need to be better promoted, and I think Sayler is getting there.
Overall we will be okay in the Valley and competitive in the polls.
