Wow is all I can say about them. As Coyote fans we need to take a long look at this. NDSU has basically scaled to the top of D1 FCS. It says that it can be done. They transitioned only 4 years before USD did.
Also look at SDSU. They got to a point where they won something like 4 out of 5 against them.
Like it or not this is what we are up against at South Dakota. I completely get that NDSU has a bigger budget a better tradition and so forth. What this does give the Coyotes is a measuring stick. They play in a similar although larger facility recruit similar areas and players etc.
Do we as fans think we can get to their level or at least close to their level. Last year they went to the playoffs as did SDSU 2 years ago as a first year eligible program. NDSU has been good sunk to low levels fast and got right back up to the pinnacle again.
NDSU fans are very passionate to the point of obnoxiousness. But the thing is they have high standards and expect to do what they are now doing. Without an expectation instilled in the whole program this would not be possible.
What is your expectation as a Coyote Fan?

You forget how much easier is it to recruit in Fargo and get more funds in a city like fargo than it is in Vermillion, Sioux Falls and Sioux City combined...
But that is the example, NDSU.

I would venture to guess that USD has about as many people within a 60 mile radius as does NDSU. The city that a program has does mean a little bit but other things such as tradition, winning, personable coach etc. And a little thing such as Education has something to do with that as well. :-)
USD can't do much about the city that they reside but there are many important factors that can be improved upon that could and should make a big difference. USD needs to build Coyote football into a culture. We just need to put the losing road culture out of our being.

Another stick to measure against is SDSU this year. They, by all accounts, are having a down year, and yet they have managed to get two conference wins on the road.
if we cannot figure out how to win outside of the DakotaDome, we are destined to have one dissapointing season after another for as far as the eye can see.

Some of this is being hinted at in the S&T game thread from last week, but I'll bring it back over here, at the risk of throwing a wet blanket on a win.
Once again, in a supposed 'down year', the Jackrabbits pick up another FCS road win.
If I'm counting correctly, the Coyotes are 2-16 on the road against FCS teams since starting the transition. This gives me some concern. I see a team that does not know how to handle road games and I'm not sure I see any progress on that front. A win next week will provide some hope, but at this point, I'm not that optimistic.
At this rate, in good years, we'll go 4-4 in the conference for the rest of eternity. Can't wait.

Interesting you revived this thread for the wrong reasons. Clicking on it I expected to read about how the Bison pissed down their leg and lost the home finale against Youngstown State. There went the perfect season and #1 ranking in one bad afternoon. They'll still make the playoffs but their seeding will be affected.

The title of the thread really doesn't match the topic being discussed.... at least it's not what you would expect. But, since you decided to change the topic ;D, looks like NDSU will drop to #5 in one poll at least.

NDSU is still #1 in the GPI index and should still get the #1 or #2 seed, NDSU had such a great transition with huge fbs wins, ranked #1, 10-1 season, that it was nothing any other of the 3 schools matched.
Sdsu got lucky in a down mfvc year to reach playoffs, only to be embarassed.
Usd has 2 very solid wins in my opinion vs Minn & Ewu, although Ewu is a .500 team.
I'd much rather recruit a kid to usd then sdsu right now, sdsu is getting destroyed by their town, facilities, coach, etc.
as far as the MVFC next year, I can see you beating WIU, MSU and SDSU. siu is horrible as well. 4-4 should be a goal for year 1 for usd. good luck at leeast you are head & shoulders about und

The Bison are off to play in the national title game. They pretty much destroyed Georgia Southern in the semi-final. They are playing Sam Houston State of Texas for the national title in Texas on a neutral field.

Good luck to the Bison. Too bad Montana lost. Too good Montana lost IMO. They won't play a non conference road game barely ever and get a higher seed every year by staying in comfy Missoula all the while breaking contracts along the way. I can never respect a program that can't live up to their end of a promise.

I have been a critic of USD for this upcoming year thinking that it will be an eye opener for USD fans.
I don't know what kind of philosophy Glenn will have with this team but the Valley is a lunch pale, blue collar league. Running the ball and playing good defense is a pretty good formula for success in this conference. Look at the Bison this year. They physically worn-down James Madison-Lehigh-Georgia Southern in the playoffs. SHSU was a very good team with a very good defense.
Will Glenn keep the version of the spread that USD uses? Same OC?
I'm not saying that USD needs to follow what the Bison or Jacks or even UNI have done but having a good defense is a must in this conference. Glenn is a proven winner and he will probably get USD to where they need to go as far as recruiting and winning.
What do USD fans think about the upcoming year for the FB team?
