I was reading a chat session (maybe Mick Garry's Argus chat) and thought I heard that the turf might be grey with red field stripes. I don't know if it was said jokingly or not but I think that would be completely awsome if true. Add red end zones and that would truley be Yote turf.
Please let this be true.

The jackies would just rip on that. You got to remember they have the best of everything. They will NEVER fill a 22K stadium and it should not be built that large.

This is a terrible post and obviously uninformed. 1. I'm a Jacks fan and why do you care what we would think? But since you do, I'm not sure how I feel about the gray turf(if it's actually being considered). I'm not the biggest fan of colored turf, but it might be cool. I'd have to see it. Do they still allow it? I thought they weren't going to let schools install it anymore? 2. The stadium isn't being built for only 10 years. It's being built for 50 years. Building it for 22,000 people will be just fine.

I have a memory trace in my head that the NCAA came down and said "no more weird-colored fields--you can have any color as long as it's green." Sufficiently motivated Internet surfers could, I'm sure, discover the veracity of my (admittedly) dodgy memory.

It's hard to imagine a post more on topic with a thread on a message board. Way to nail it! Okay, on topic. I recall reading about colored turf and went looking for an NCAA rule mentioned by filbert. In a brief search, I found one source, the Boise State official athletic website, in a section debunking 10 myths about the color of the field. One of the 'debunks' states there is no NCAA rule on field color other than a requirement the endzone be a different color than the field. (According to the source, the NCAA mandates the color of the football -- brown -- and the color of the yard lines -- white. Here's a link to that source: bleacherreport.com/articles/428654-mythbusting-finding-truth-in-the-10-greatest-lies-of-boise-states-bl#/articles/428654-mythbusting-finding-truth-in-the-10-greatest-lies-of-boise-states-bl/page/6One more source...not sure it's any more authoritative but it is consistent with the first source and it purports to quote the actual NCAA rule: legendsrevealed.com/sports/2009/05/06/why-blue-in-a-sea-of-green/If the sources are correct, looks like it may be possible for USD to have a field color other than green.

Upon further review . . . It appears that it was the NFL that decreed "no color but green." Central Arkansas, it seems, has a purple-and-gray field. ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=499194It's not as awful as Eastern Washington's (I'm not sure that's possible) but I guess I'm just a traditionalist--any color endzone is fine with me, but I think playing fields should be green. But if USD does go to a weird field, gray would be light-years ahead of Eastern Washington Red. That's just unwatchable--at least on TV. Gray wouldn't make casual viewer's eyes bleed, at least. Not sure if you really want to have red stripes on that, though--might want to do some camera-testing on that one.

Please, please, please.... Go with a green field. Use some creativity and make a statement with the endzone colors, but those non-green fields are unbearable.
Red and white checkerboard endzones...and a giant SD in the paw logo at midfield.... That would be cool!

No checkerboards in the endzones. Checkboards are only good for playing checkers and chess.

As usual I get the jackies upset. Oh well.
