I am from Yankton and I always thought the fans down there were proud when their team was state champs because they were true champs of the biggest schools in the state. Do they want to move down just to play in the dome or to win a state title. If Yankton moved down to a lower class and doesn't think they can compete with the big boys than I won't consider those state title worthy of much at all. Why don't we just have a state title for every team in the state or maybe break it down to county titles.

I've spoken with the Vermillion AD about this classification talk. I tend to agree with you CF but, after speaking with him, the Sioux Falls schools have gotten so large that it is getting near impossible for the smaller schools to compete with them. Yes, once in a great while Yankton or Watertown or one of the smaller schools in AA may have a talented class come through that can compete with the SF schools but it is to the point that the SF schools are so large that they are reloading every year. Ironically, a beneficiary of this increased competition in SF are the surrounding small towns. West Central gets good athletes who open enroll there out of Sioux Falls, so does Tea Area.
I understand the whole enrollment issue argument but I don't think it makes sense when I see RC Stevens and Central struggle with the large enrollments they have.
I don't see the SF schools as all that powerful. I still remember the days when they were in the SIC with the Sioux City schools and the Sioux City Schools (mainly East and Heelan) routinely pounded them into the ground and owned that conference.

Sioux Falls O'Gorman, even though in Sioux Falls, is one of the smaller 11AA schools & if was strictly size based, then Rapid City should also be dominating.
If the Hurons, Sturgis, etc don't want to play the Sioux Falls schools, maybe the ADM break between classes needs to be changed & they can move to 11A. Sure it will hurt, but don't you imagine it hurt Gregory, Miller, Stanley Co, etc to have to move from 11 man to 9 man.

Yeah this is a complete joke. There are seven classes in a state that, what, doesn't even have a million people? There is a reason high school athletics in South Dakota is regarded as subpar, because the governing bodies act like the state is subpar. Honestly, time to grow a pair and find ways to compete with Sioux Falls than whining about Sioux Falls. Having a big population doesn't make you good, having a winning mindset does and there are not very many schools in the ESD that have a consistent winning mindset, same with Rapid City.
It's time for SD to get its act together and start cutting classes instead of adding classes. This is just one big joke so no one feels bad. Wayne Carney should be fired today.

South Dakota Football does NOT need anymore classes, this isn't youth league where everyone gets a trophy just for showing up.

Heard this morning that this passed, stupid idea.
I referenced talking to the Vermillion AD earlier, a different proposal that was floated was to create a new class and reclassify all schools so there wouldn't be 2 classes with only 8 schools in them. The response was that this is a AA problem leave the rest of us out of it. I agree with that.
I hope the AA and AAA schools will be proud of their "State" titles. There are conferences with more schools in them. What a joke.

The Vermillion AD is wrong because it's also an 11A and 11B problem since a team with one win made the playoffs this year, honestly. The bigger joke is it beat a team with six wins, so how tough was that schedule for the six win team?
There should be four to five classes max in South Dakota.
