Not a surprise since Temple announced the move to Big East. I suppose Oakland would like a spot in Horizon if one is open.

Remember when everyone said the Summit was so unstable and used the Horizon as the example? Seems like the Horizon is not as safe as everyone though.

If the Horizon becomes unstable than the Summit may follow. The Summit has made it apparent that they want the core of the conference to be centered around the upper midwest and more in particular the Dakota's. What happens if Oakland leaves the Summit? Do IUPUI, IFPW and maybe Western Illinois follow. What happens to the Summit in that senario. There are no other current D1 programs after UNO to go after to make up for the loss or Oakland (if it ever happens) or the other eastern schools. The Summit could very well find themselves as a conference of NDSU, SDSU, USD, UNO and UMKC. Does that really sound like an appealing conference makeup? What does the Summit do if that happens and if there are no other moveups from D2?
The Summit League is getting stronger in once sense in the strength of their programs but in another sense there are still logistical things to worry about if the conference upheavel continues across the nation. The core of the Summit being centered around Sioux Falls can be a very challenging problem in getting 10 schools close enough to the epicenter to be a legit conference.

There is speculation (perhaps unfounded) that Evansville might want to return to the Horizon. If they did, there's chatter about who might fill their spot in the Missouri Valley. Maybe a Summit team? Some discussion here if interested - www.SummitZoo.com
