Just to follow up on the media coverae, I read Terry Vandervacs blog about the jacks, he was talking about junior college transfers, and some freshman. Thats the kind of coverage I am looking for. And I know that fall practice is just that, practice, but you can't tell me theres some pretty interesting stories coming out of fall camp at USD. Yes, I did read Mick Garrys blog the other day, and it was nice, but there is a whole lot more out there to report on. We have alot of exciting things happening at the U, would like to see more coverage.

Agree on the lack of Argus Misleader coverage. Quite a contrast on the coverage of USD vs SDSU. About the only story the AL hasn't covered out of SDSU is the switch to a different brand of toilet paper this season at SDSU.
I think the athletic dept & Learfield is doing a lot to improve the overall media coverage. We have a much improved radio Coyote Sports Network and the radio broadcasts themselves will also be improved with Joe VanGoor on the play by play & RJ (KaBoom) Pattison on the color. I also believe 10 of the 11 football games will be available on TV in some form or fashion. (Still wish Midco Sports Net made their broadcasts available to other cable systems & Dish & Direct TV). Also have a new & much improved website.

Coyote61, You are absolutely right and unfortunately I think most people would be satisfied with just a little more information or a regular bonus feature we can all look forward to like Terry's Tuesday Tid-bits and a "camp chronicle" here and there.
For years now the Argus' excuse for the disparity in coverage was that USD wasn't a full-fledged member of Division 1 yet, then it was SDSU went D 1 first and we'll pick things up once the rivalry resumes, then it was SDSU had more readers (interpreted as the same dozen guys) "liking" their stories than USD so by bizarre default there was somehow less interest in USD. I'm referring to the little feature above each story allowing readers to approve of news features, which the Argus finally did away with before they rolled out their new format.
Needless to say the folks at the Argus have run out of excuses and now it just reflects poorly on them, not USD. Mick is an extremely insightful guy, just wish we heard more from him. Pretty sure I posted that same sentence 4 years ago on the old USD board, but I digress.
Goyotes is right. There are lots of good things happening that show USD is newsworthy and is acting like a D 1 Athletic Department is supposed to act. Tomorrow will be a terrific test to see if the Argus is ready to make the same transition with its coverage of USD the way it has done so well with SDSU.

The Yankton Press & Dakotan always seems to do a better job than Mick when it comes to USD. Jeremy Hoeck gives them a good amount of coverage, so go to them when it comes to USD. They do a live chat on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. so long on.

The Vermillion Equalizer just came out with a 16 page preview of the MVFC and the USD fall camp. Stories on Will Powell, Josh Vander Maten, Tyler Starr, interviews with David Sayler, total conference breakdown of each team, depth chart breakdown, the whole works. Something the AL should be putting out. Actually, it has moe USD football ocverage in the preseason issue than the AL will put out all year.
I've had the opportunity to have drinks with Mick once, he's a good guy. It's not his lack of work ethic, it's the AL that limits the coverage of the Yotes. He's as frustrated as we are from the sound of it.
You know what, now that I look at this more closely I think it is a USD SID production that was distributed in the Equalizer. Every story was written by Dan Genzler. So since the AL won't cover USD the Sports Info Dept has to write and distribute the information. Great.

Dan Genzler is a good friend, but he has not been in the USD SID office for a few years now. He is a freelance writer.

Ohh, did not know that. Well he did a fantastic job on this preview. Who is he working for then?
I guess this isn't a USD production.
Edited: My bad, I just caught where you said freelance writer.

Dan Genzler has forgotten more about USD athletics than we will ever remember. Good guy.

This is correct with all the trivia he pulls from the 1930s. He has been doing some work for the equalizer for USD for a couple of years now I think. Sounds like the equalizer is starting to pass up the Vermillion Plain Talk, which isn't a surprise since Dave Lias is still at the helm.
So, how many people are going to media day, or is it even going to be open to the public? Sometimes it has been, sometimes it hasn't.

Does the Equalizer appear on the internet? If so I'd appreciate a link.
By the way, for you fans in the Black Hills, I heard today that KIMN 1150AM will carry the Coyote football games. Maybe this is old news for some.

I was embarrassed about the "media" portion of media day. There were some former players there, professors and former professors from the B school, President Abbott, and some parents. What to me was hugely disappointing was when the coaches were at the mic, addressing their positions and roles, and there was ONE FRICKIN QUESTION from the media. One. What the hell do they come for?

Pretty sure that one lone question came from our friend in Yankton.
I thought the same thing....WHERE ARE THE QUESTIONS? Though I suppose all the media just wait for individual interviews.

I will second the sentiment that we are getting nice coverage from Yankton, both from the P & D and the 9-11 show on KTVK. From what I have heard, lots of good Coyote/MVFC talk.
I don't know anything about the inside workings of the press, but regarding the AL coverage I am not so sure I buy the "AL higher-ups are the reason for less USD coverage" line of thinking. Does the AL restrict how much someone can tweet, post Youtube Video, write on a blog? Again, this is not meant to be a personal attack (especially since I don't really know what I am talking about), but it would seem to me a news organization would encourage reporters to communicate through these mediums as they don't take up print space and they do connect readers to the organization's coverage.
