Okay, we have a young team and it showed today. With that being said I am proud of our team and what they accomplished on the field today. Montana was clearly the better team but we were able to "touch gloves" and represent ourselves well. We now know what needs work and moving forward I'm sure we'll improve week to week. No reason to panic! Let's pack the Dome for Crest.... I mean Colgate!

Attended the game. Absolutely incredible stadium experience. I don't know much about the stadium situation at App St. or some of the other traditional FCS powers, but they do it right in Missoula. Knocked the Fargo Dome into a distant second. And the people were incredible.
As for the game: bigger, faster, stronger. They were able to protect an inexperienced qb because we couldn't stop the run. Their one running back was a bowling ball who ran with a mean streak. Talented player. They killed us, it seemed, four to six yards a crack. Hence the record number of first downs.
We'll get better. We have to. Most hostile environment we'll see this year, which is tough for a young offensive line. The scary thing is that Montana is probably not the best team we'll play this year. Maybe not the second, third, or even fourth best team. The MVFC looked salty yesterday! UNI gave Wisconsin a scare. Youngstown knocked off Pitt. NDSU is NDSU. SDSU gave KU a game. A lot of people were surprised Indiana St. lost to IU. Tough schedule, but I'm confident we'll compete.

I love the Coyotes to death, but I have to tell ya I am a little nervous. Our lines got manhandled on both sides of the ball. I was hoping the Juco transfers would give us some breathing room, but they aren't ready yet.
You look at the results of the MVC yesterday, and this league is tough. Youngstown beats Pitt, UNI gives Wisco all they want....I could go on but I get depressed thinking of it.
I felt we were very conservative in our play calling yesterday but maybe that's because Wesley understands how bad our hands are tied.
We need a big crowd Saturday for Colgate and get a win. Winning cures a lot of wrongs. Good luck fellas, work hard and hopefully good things will happen.

Colgate opened with a limp and a loss, so I like our chances, but you can't take anything for granted. Little concerned about the report above that our lines were outclassed on both sides. Didn't see the game, just listened to it, which presented its own set of challenges.

Can't agree with you more yoteforever. I thought both lines got worked over pretty good too. Hopefully they got the first game jitters out and are ready this week. Was kind of impressed with Iddings for his first game.

Two thoughts about the game: 1. Yes the lines on both sides of the ball looked a little rough to say the least. Along with that, USD's tackling looked terrible. It seemed as if the ball carrier was able to gain at least five more yards after first contact. Wrap up and bring them down! 2. VanderMaten is going to be a good QB for the Yotes for the next few years. He can use his feet to get out of trouble and he was able to make some great throws on the move including his TD pass in the 2nd quarter. He did miss some easy throws but most of those felt like he was trying to be too careful with the ball especially on the out routes. I'm excited to watch him grow and develop over the course of the year.

I agree that the line was a major problem, and that definitely affects the plays that can be called. This could be a year long problem, unfortunately. Seems like Ed and TS left the cupboard dry with the O-Line recruiting. Hopefully the short passing game can come together to help protect Vander Maten and the running backs will have to become very good at pass protection fast.

Our defense took 98 snaps. I get tired just thinking about it. Conversely, our offense had 45 snaps.
Hats off to Montana for their sugar huddle game plan to prevent substitutions. Expect to see that again this year.

Youngstown also ran 90 plus plays against Pittsburg with their spread offense. But plays don't win games scores do. We will have to fine tune our play book to score when the opportunity is there. We can't afford mistakes. We will get better. Remember the 4th quarter at home has always been the Grizquarter. Well from those of us that we're there the field temp was prob 90 at an altitude of 4000 ft. Yes the Griz can handle that better than the visitor. They ran away from Tyler Starr almost every play. I think that will change. He needs to be in the mix so they will have to disguise where he is before a play.Lets go Yotes.
