It's now Wednesday of game week and no thread yet so let's get it started.
This season is kind of odd. It's been three weeks since the last home game, we've got back to back home games then wait a month for the last one. Just feels weird.
ISU is 4-0 and ranked #12 in the country coming into this game. Should be a very tough one for the Yotes to win. We laid an egg in last years game against the Redbirds. let's see if we can spoil their perfect start and, more importantly, go 1-0 to start the conference slate.

Hoping that some Dome cooking will help out but I have great concerns!

Taking four family members to Saturday's game, 2 are Howling Pack members, but none have seen the Yotes play football since our last game against SDSU. All are excited to see the improvements in the Dome and across campus. Going to be taking in the tail-gate too. Bring an extra friend or family member and get to the game on Saturday! Go Yotes!

Illinois State probably will not hold the Coyotes to 108 total yards like last year but the outcome will be the same.
Redbirds win 34-13

Not that it's a real secret, but the Yotes need to play a solid first half of mistake free football to have any chance of winning this Saturday. They have played much better in the second half so far this year than the first so we will see. If they can get a lead in the first half, I think they will keep it and get a W. I think there is a real chance this game will play out like the Eastern Washington game if that happens given the home-field advantage. THE DOME WILL BE LOUD!
The No $#!+ Sherlock key to the game on defense will be stopping the run up the middle. I think bringing #11 off the D-line would give him more of a chance to disrupt any type of offensive tempo rather than trying to react to everything from the LB position and allowing for a few extra yards each play (so many times I see Tyler chasing someone down from behind). This approach would set up different blitz packages and stunts and give us a lot more flexibility on defense. Plus Tyler would wear those big boys down by the end of the first quarter like he did last year and be getting a shot at 2 or 3 sacks a game. Goro, Marlette, Frierson, and Swift have all looked promising at times, but we need big games from them. They should all now be up to speed and ready to crack some skulls.
On offense, JVM has a lot of tools at his disposal from his own running ability, to Sanders and Sims, to the short pass, but for crying out loud, let's stretch the field and get a few more deep balls to Will, Terry, and Q. Even if these passes are just close it spreads the field for everything else. I don't buy in to the let the run set up the pass mentality. Come out and punch these cats squarely in the nose and grab the momentum and never take your foot off the gas. O-line will need to step up and give Josh time. Hell, everyone needs to step up.
I like the Yotes by 10 on Saturday and I won't be shocked at all if happens. These kids can play and our coaches can coach. Let's do our part and support them. Kick some ass Coyotes!

I like your thoughts on defense. Love to see Petrino find ways to get Starr more actively involved. Moving him around and bringing him to the line of scrimmage is a good a idea. We have to find a way to stop teams from running up the middle on us and that begins with getting Starr to shut that down. We have some big defensive backs in Marlette, Goro and #2. Looks like they can play solid pass as well. Get teams off he run and inot passing might be to our advantage. Would love to see the some more creativity on offense. Some reverses or double passes. Get Sims and Sanders outside a little more maybe on some nice couters. Seems like we try to force a lot of runs up the middle that have not worked. This would be a great game to turn Powell lose deep. He's do

ISU has a field day, sorry guys the Valley is the strongest it's been since we joined in 2008, and yes adding NDSU and SDSU has helped push every program to up the ante. You guys will find out the GWFC was a Whole different animal. Playing eight conference games is very difficult it will test your depth and conditioning

You guys will find out the GWFC was a Whole different animal. Playing eight conference games is very difficult it will test your depth and conditioning Do you look into a mirror and admire yourself this much also? This is how you guys 'discuss' football? A couple of Bison fans come on here and give opinions and all you guys do is name call.......WTF! So you guys explain to me now that USD is in the conference that now all of a sudden they are going to be a team in the top tier. Illinois State totally steam-rolled USD last year and only gave up 108 yards. USD lost something like 23 seniors and has a terrible road record in the D1 era. The Redbird defense is tough, I saw it firsthand last year in Fargo. 8 conference games in the Valley is tough as nails to get through. Could USD win this? You bet they could. They usually play pretty well in Vermillion. We'll see, maybe they prove me wrong. So it is name-calling then. Gee, I wonder why there are not many 'outside' posters on here. I cannot wait for the game at HW. You guys will be surprised how many fans are wearing green and yellow.

I welcome open and honest debate anytime. But when the both of you come on our board, with no other posts, and start saying how bad the Coyotes are going to get beat, what in the hell do you think the reaction is going to be? As the members of the SDSU board once told me..."this is our board, and if you want to debate, be civil, not condescending." The same thing applies to you and other posters. I have posted on your board in the past and no matter what was said I was railed. Personally speaking, I wished you would come back and have frank discussions. TJ comes on and says you guys are going to get ripped apart, blah blah blah, so what do you think the reaction is going to be?
Now to start over, I for one have a realistic view of the MVC, and where we fit. We aren't ready to be a top notched team yet. I don't know if we are ready to even compete on a somewhat equal basis, but I have to believe we will get there. Remember, the posters on here are proud and competitive people like your fan base. We also want to win. I said at the start of the season if Coach Glen won 3-4 games we would be fortunate. We are also aware of your fantastic fan base traveling and supporting the Bison. We aren't even close to where you are, and quite frankly, I doubt we ever will be as much as it dismays me. But that also doesn't mean we can't grow this thing and have a good time as well. I go to 9-10 games a year and have a blast. I look forward to our game 3 weeks from now. I am aware how much Green and Yellow there is, and for my seat in the park, I think it is good our fan base see something as exciting as yours.
You are welcome to post anytime, as is TJ, as long as you don't just smack us in a non smack section. Fair?

I say sticks and stones, let it ride unless it is vulgar, libel or about yo momma. Participation is welcome on a board that needs it.

I'm trying to follow Bizon reasoning here. The Valley is deep this year and we will have 8 tough conference games, it's a grind. One of the reasons we'll lose this week is because we don't have the depth. Umm, you do realize this is our FIRST conference game, right? You know, I'll listen to that argument at game 5 to 8 of the conference schedule but not game 1.
I don't get the superiority complex the SU's have over USD. OK, I can understand NDSU has something to brag about winning the NC last year, but why do you throw SDSU in that category? SDSU only beat UC Davis 12-8 this year and has been beaten by Cal Poly the last 2 times they played, you know, our former GWC mates.
This prompts me to ask this question, is the MVFC really that much better than the GWC? More teams? Yes. More depth? Sure. Better quality teams? I don't think so. Squad for squad the GWC can play right with the MVFC, it's just there are more schools in the MVFC. That's it.
USD is historically a much, much better team at home. I think under Glenn that continues and he makes us better on the road. I think ISU is going to run into a jacked up buzzsaw this weekend.
Coyotes by 10.

I agree with Chuck. Lets talk football. Every fan wants to brag about how his Dad can beat your Dad. If we can't take it then we should quit playing the game. Sports are competition and we will have our turn. The final result is the kids play the game...we just spout off and show how much we don't know. Let the games begin. Bring on the MVC conference it is now our home and we need to make our own place in the ledger. ISU welcome to Vermillion.
