Ok what is the thought. Who got the better end of the Denard Span for Alex Meyer trade?
I have my thoughts but want to know what a particular individual thought of it first.

Would've liked to see Minnesota get MLB ready pitching like tommy Hanson (who was traded the next day) before they signed upton, or James shields, who was too spends for minny, or wade Davis and Chris archer.
Meyer is a power arm and a great prospect. Twins got a great piece that is 2 years away. Hopefully he doesn't flounder like brad peacock but I think he has better makeup.
The nats got the better deal cause their rotation is set for a while and they needed a cf and span could be huge for them and a big missing piece. The twins will roll with cole devries as the no. 2 starter, so the nats won this deal long and short term.

I pretty much agree with most of what you said. I think it is a good deal for both clubs. Washington wants to win now and the Twins know at least for a couple of years they probably won't be a contender. Overall I don't think the Twins were going to get a better prospect for Span, who will be rather old when the Twins are ready to contend. I do endorse the deal.
I have been up and down on Terry Ryan but he is better than Billy Smith. Ryan makes some good deals but also takes chances on too many guys like Jamie Carroll and over the hill or under performers because they might come cheap. I do like that Ryan realizes that the Twins are not close and is building towards 2014 or more likely 2015. The Twins have restocked their farm system much better than where it was 3 years ago. IMO they have about 6 really nice prospects and Meyer probably fits in there somewhere as well. Sano, Buxton, Berrios, Hicks, Arcia and Rosario are all minor leaguers right now that have the potential to be good major leaguers in time. It might be 2 or 3 years for most of them but at least there is a little light at the end of the tunnel for the Twins although that light is small and far away yet but at least it's glimmering somewhere down the line.
The Twins are basically a 95 loss team. Losing Span maybe they are a 97 loss team. I really don't care whether they lose 88 games or 95 it's still not really in contention. It is time to build for the future and I think Ryan realizes that. The Span trade made it seem like the Twins are going into rebuild mode, at least to a point.

In addition to getting a pretty good prospect for 2015 and beyond, the twins also got rid of 4.5 million dollars of salary cost when they (hopefully) have someone else in Ben Revere to play center field. If this freeing up of salary money makes it more likely for the Twins to get an immediate impact player, the full value of this deal for the Twins has not yet been realized.

Like another Jason marquis.....who was the "impact guy" last year for the pitching staff Lets pretend that Marquis never really happened ;D Then we wake up and realize that yes indeed it happened. Hopefully Gardy will retire before the new crop of Twins comes up to the majors and maybe someone like Paul Molitor will take over.

I don't think molitor wants it. His name always comes up and nothing...I think he likes where he is at the moment. Steinbach is the next in line.

What the heck are the twins doing? They keep getting rid of all their outfielders. If they have that many outfielders, their scouts and owners and everyone involved in drafting players suck. Seriously, develop an outfielder a few years, get rid of him. Get a new one, develop him, get rid of him.
Back when the Twins were winning the division every year, they developed and kept their players. Now they develop them a few years and trade them for crap. When they were winning the division they played for THEN, now since they gutted the team and are "Rebuilding", they keep rebuilding for a couple years from now which ends up being a couple years from now, and then a couple more years from now, and a couple more.
