Great info Eddie. Thanks for the update, especially on the OL. To drop 180 pounds so far before spring ball is impressive. Hopefully that becomes quickly apparent on the field.

I know they are doing good things in the weight and conditioning department. I know one particular freshman that showed up in August for camp after recovering from shoulder surgery just getting back into shape and underweight (217lbs). Now he is 245lb, and all muscle. I agree, the coaching staff just needs some more time. This team is going to get better.

What type of season is necessary next year to show progress in the right direction?
Looking at next season’s schedule, I would like to see the following:
Aug. 31 – UC Davis (home) W Sept. 7 – at Kansas L Sept. ___ - at Northern Arizona L Sept. 28 – at Western Illinois W? Oct. 5 – Missouri State (home) W Oct. 12 – Indiana State (home) W Oct. 19 – at Northern Iowa L? Oct. 26 – at Illinois State L? Nov. 2 – Youngstown State (home) W Nov. 9 – Montana (home) W? Nov. 16 – South Dakota State (home) W? Nov. 23 – at North Dakota State L
That is a VERY optimistic record of 7-5. I don’t think it will actually happen, but I do believe we are capable based on the scores from last season, the improvement that comes from consistency with the staff/system and the change in venue for a couple games.
I think a record of 5-7 would be sufficient to show we are on the right track. Maybe I am being too conservative.

Good post, CE. I don't think that's an unreasonable expectation. NAU is going to be tough on the road. They were 8-3 last season and return 18 starters. KU is going to be awful this season, but I don't see us finding chemistry fast enough to pull an upset. The MVFC will be a beast again, and we must win at home. Those road games are brutal. It would be an upset if NDSU is not national champion again this season. I think I read that they only graduated four players from their two-deep roster, and two of those guys were only on the two-deep because of injuries to underclassmen. Alabama of the FCS.
I pulled the offensive and defensive starters from our season finale @ SDSU:
QB 16 Vander Maten,J., JUNIOR HB 32 Sims,Marcus DONE FB 87 McMartin,Q. DONE WR 17 Powell,Will DONE WR 6 Terry,Terrance SENIOR TE 84 Burns,Jay DONE RT 65 Chancellor,D. JUNIOR RG 72 Schofield,A. JUNIOR C 69 Ross,Tim DONE LG 67 O'Neill,Cody SENIOR LT 70 Huffer,Matt JUNIOR DE 92 Eaton,Jordan DONE DT 56 Jacobs,Nick SOPH DE 94 Iddings,Drew SOPH YLB 11 Starr,Tyler SENIOR MLB 25 Marlette,Tim DONE WLB 43 Hogans,Darius DONE SLB 46 Lage,Keyen SOPH CB 22 Knox,Dyllon SENIOR SS 2 Taverna,Devin SENIOR FS 9 Swift,Aaron SENIOR CB 21 Reeves,Ricky SOPH
The above, of course, is a loose approximation of who we've lost and who's coming back. I always look first to the offensive line, and I'm delighted to see our beef is accumulating some more birthdays. Perhaps someone with more time, knowledge and memory would comment on some of our likely contributors that might not have cracked the starting lineup.

Thanks for posting the team breakdown, Yotemeal. Replacing eight doesn't seem too bad to me. Hope we have a good center to step in, and look forward to the kicker from Colorado helping out. Now to just make it through six more months.

Now to just make it through six more months. Watched film clips of the kicker last night. Holy smokes. That ball EXPLODES off his foot. If his accuracy is as good as his blast, he will be a lethal weapon. He literally had several kickoffs in a "no wind" situation go through the end zones. That's big. Our staff did a fantastic job in my opinion. Thanks to them.

Sanders RB These were guys that played significantly, from my memory, that I'm sure will get the opportunity this year. I also think that we might see a few RS Freshmen added to the mix this year, like last year. And, of course this years recruiting class may have a couple of instant players.

I think we're going to see some good competition at multiple positions this spring that will continue into fall camp. There are some good underclassman and red shirt freshman that will battle it out for playing time. Should be fun to watch and see who performs. I think all of them are in that mindset and are taking things serious in the weight and conditioning department. I'm looking forward to the spring game for a preview of what could be in store next year.

There is a new vibe about Yote football and there is a tremendous amount of work being put in during the off-season to get ready for the '13 campaign. Keep working hard Yotes because I know you are going to make us proud!

Talked with one of the coaches today for a bit at the Glazier Football clinic. He is VERY excited about this class of recruits. Said the coaches recognize that they have some work to do to be competitive in the Missouri Valley, but are driven to make that happen. Nobody was happy with how the season turned out, they want to make sure it doesn't happen again.
