According today's (3-26-13) Argus, the USD baseball team will be playing in the Metrodome this week. Hmmmm?
The Headline reads "USD Among Last College Baseball Teams to Play at Metrodome This Week."
Although this was clearly a typo, I wonder if any former baseball players who said they would never give to the Howling Pack until USD brought back baseball saw this headline.
Here is your chance to put your money where your mouth is boys! =)

It's a club team, not a varsity sport, and has been around since the program was axed. I've watched them play a few games at Prentis over the years when Iowa or Iowa States club teams have been to town.
USD needs to bring baseball back if for no other reason than the Summit will finally have enough member schools with baseball to sponsor it.

Yeah, but if they bring back bowling, they are going to have to create a couple of other women's sports cause of Title IX. I wouldn't mind that, but USD needs to get the fan base to the main base first before they bring back and create other sports.

Yea they are a club team. I have seen them play quite a bit over the last few years as they play Mt. Marty usually a couple times in the fall. They seem to hang in there for a few innings and then their lack of depth rears its ugly head. I remember a few years back they used to travel down south for spring break and play other club teams. Kids said they had a blast. Wish they would bring back baseball at the U.

I wondered if that was the case. I would like to see them play some time. Also want to check out the club hockey guys too.

Personally I would love to see USD play baseball in division 1. It's a great idea, in theory, but the budget and Title IX really doesn't allow it. Would be nice, though.

My son has played on the Club Baseball team all 5 years of college and is the President of the team this year. I didn't realize Club Baseball existed prior to his enrollment at the U. Club baseball is played by most major universities and has conferences set up nationwide with a playoff system that advances 8 teams to play in the World Series held in June (in Georgia for the past couple of years) of each year. There is a national organization that governs club baseball - www.clubbaseball.org/ Conference games are played on weekends with home series this year with the Hawkeyes on April 27 & 28 (they have won the north division of the conference for the last 3 years) and Mankato on May 4 & 5 (was supposed to be this past weekend but weather forced rescheduling to graduation weekend).

USD needs to bring baseball back if for no other reason than the Summit will finally have enough member schools with baseball to sponsor it. The Summit does sponsor baseball and has 6 teams with Omaha having baseball. It would be good to have more for the conference season. Isn't there women's lacrosse or something you could add for Title IX? Summit League baseball page: www.thesummitleague.org/sports/bsb/index

I thought the Summit didn't sponsor baseball. Or maybe it was they are in danger of falling short of denough schools to sponser it due to defections like ORU. That's it. USD baseball would help solidify the Summit's numbers.

Yes, I think right now only 5 teams count. That is the minimum until Omaha is done with the transition and championship eligible. If Oakland went to the Horizon (insert all other realignment theories) summit baseball would be below. Oral Roberts, Centenary, and Southern Utah all had baseball programs that left. Denver and USD don't so we lost three baseball programs and only added Omaha back.

As a former player before it became a club sport I can tell you there is NO way it will be added as a sport. Many reasons: title IX, money for scholarships, Prentis is terrible it was the worst D2 park back in the day unless there were some upgrades to the infield I'm not aware of, to name a few. A grounder was like plinko in the Price is Right - you never knew where it was going to bounce. Climate - most games would be on the road. That takes money. Practice in winter - we used to practice from 10 pm to 1 am - the only time you can get the Dome free to not kill people with balls flying around. Of course taking grounders off the track was fun, not a lot of true hops there. Even though I'm a baseball guy there is no way USD adds baseball. Yotefan I do like your effort to convince that Chiro to join the HP.
