The interim label has been dropped from David Herbster's title at the University of South Dakota. The six-year employee is now the athletic director at the school.
The announcement came from USD president Jim Abbott at the DakotaDome on Thursday afternoon.
"It's a great day for the athletic department," said USD football coach Joe Glenn.
"He's earned the complete support and respect of the coaches during his time here."
When previous AD David Sayler departed suddenly in December to take the same job at Miami of Ohio, Herbster became the acting AD. He also served in that role when Joel Nielsen left USD in 2010.
Herbster, a former team captain of the basketball team at Virginia Tech, has previously served as an AD at Concordia of St. Paul and Nebraska-Omaha. He was the director of special events and promotions for Special Olympics Minnesota from 1998-2001
