Just reaching around to the Summit League members to see what you guys think about possibly adding rifle as a league-sponsored NCAA-level sport. It seems almost every school has an ROTC program which could supply some athletes. It is indoors, fairly low-cost, and can even be run as a mixed/co-ed program. This year, a female from West Virginia U won the overall national title.

Actually, I wouldn't be too opposed to that. Sound low cost and a female rifle team could help the Title IX numbers

Ehh, I like women's bowling better. While I like Prairie Lanes, I think there would need to be a better place set up in order to have a bowling team.

Was watching something last night and they had that commercial for the Capital One Cup standings. First observation is that WVU won the Rifle National Championship. Second observation is that NDSU is still 3rd in the rankings by virtue of their FCS National Football Championship.
Now, if USD could win the FCS National Football Championship and the Rifle NC then we'd probably be 1st in the Cap One Cup standings. Which leads me to another thought, I'm sad to say I think we are closer to winning the Rifle NC than the Football NC even though we don't have a Rifle team. Why is that? Because if we ever did start a Rifle team, with the plethora of hunting in SD, I think we could put together a formidable team in a hurry. The SD recruiting area would be as fertile to shooting as Florida and Texas are to football Also, with our unique location, being so close to Omaha, I think we are in great position to recruit some urban shooters for the handgun competition.

My alma mater's (WIU) national championship prowess (not NCAA-sanctioned though) has been is in Men's Bowling (1999, 2001, 1002). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercollegiate_sports_team_champions#BowlingSince then, the campus bowling center has been closed down. Not sure of any plans to re-open. I think rifle has a better "shot" of working at WIU. You guys certainly have a rifle recruiting advantage, but WVU recruited from Italy to bring in their national champion woman. I am not sure how best to proceed to pursue this. Should I set up a web-site soliciting feedback, both positive and negative? If there is enough positive support, then send out out some letters to the Summit League and member school VIPs to encourage it? I will be going to the Summit League BB championships in Sioux Falls next March. Maybe I can make an oral proposal to the Summit League decision makers at that time. Hey, I am not a big hunter and have not fired my 22 cal in 30+ years. I cannot do this alone. Appreciate any and all feedback you guys come with.
