I went up to the volleyball match last night and drove into the backside of Frost for parking and went by the football stadium, and as much as they make fun of the Dakota Dome, holy shit, their field looked like cows have grazed on it for weeks. It's a muddy mess. There were lights on, and if I were them, I would have shut them off. Talk about a "bush league" field. They can pump out their chests all they want, but anything other than turf is unacceptable for D1 teams to play on if their grass field is going to look like that. Hell, kids will get hurt as temps drop. It's like playing on slop now, and will be like playing on concrete later. Also, they "reported" 11,000 at the game yesterday, but was told more like 8500 by fans at the volleyball match. I thought they were the "new breed" of South Dakota? They weren't fair weather fans like they have painted us to be. Looks like it to me. And on top of it, I was also told they sat on their hands the majority of the game. Lol

Yeah, it's pretty common knowledge that their stadium is a shithole. The whole program has grossly overachieved the last couple years, and is bound to come crashing down to the level where they are usually going to be. I'm supposed to believe that just because of a once in a lifetime player, their basketball program is suddenly storied? Go back 5 years and you'll see attendance figures that make ours look good. None of the SDSU fans I talk to remember those sub 10-win seasons either. Fan base seems to be mostly comprised of people who just found a t shirt.

I for one, and perhaps am in the minority, do not believe that SDSU has to fail for USD to be successful. In fact, I believe the exact opposite is true. SDSU is raising the stakes and it is a situation for USD of "Go Big, or Go Home". Better energy can be spent getting alumni and casual sports fans engaged in USD athletics than worrying about what is going on at SDSU. That being said I am anxious to see the new nickname variations for the new SDSU stadium: The Big Dyke?..... Predatory Lending Field....... Can't wait to see what my more creative brethren come up with. In all seriousness, it will be a fantastic venue and a fun place to go every other year. Huge improvement.

Oh, we came up with a few new nicknames for the cattle yard to the north while tailgating yesterday. I can't post them on this board though. This is a family friendly site.

It is absolutely beneficial for us if they are good, just as us being good helps them out too. Look at NDSU. Being the biggest rival of the most dominant FCS team makes you look a hell of a lot better than if your biggest rival was maybe a fringe top 25 team. That being said, due to personal experience having lived there and all, I'd rather see the whole town just descend into hell. It's spiteful, but I don't care.

I think D-3 Wartburg has a better football stadium than SDSU ... and doesn't need more seating for SDSU fans since only 8,500 show up for games.

My sister works on the school paper at SDSU and brought home a copy for me to read. The headline about the new football stadium seemed satirical, something along the lines of "Plans for New Stadium Proposed, Includes Turf". Yes, having turf in a Division 1 football stadium is a big deal. They're the only team in the MVC without it, not to mention even some local high schools have turf. Terrible playing field aside, I don't think it's fair to call that setup a stadium, it's just a grandstand next to a field.

Yea, I'm sure the 'dakota dump' comments will start cropping up more and more as the 11-16 date gets closer and closer. When they get their new digs it will look real nice with about 3k people in it watching a lower level team while the Yotes are competing for conference championships and meaningful playoff berths. A remodeled Dakota Dome packed with Coyote Crazies will be a whole lot more fun. Everyone will get an early preview of that when the Coyotes finish off the jackies season with a loss that knocks them out of their blue and yellow playoff dreamland. Welcome to the Danger Dome!!!!!!!!!!!
Go South Dakota, Go Coyotes, Forever of course!!!!!!!!!!

Playoffs? Isn't SDSU still in last place in the Valley? They shouldn't be thinking playoffs.

Stadium smack....really? Ummm we know the stadium sucks, that's kinda why we're gonna build a new one. You dolts need to try harder. BTW,congrats on finally getting a MVC win. 2 3 pt.home wins over 2 teams that are a combined 2-11 and you have some here predicting a victory over UNI.....LOL

I think the posters on this thread should mark the thread for later reference. Will the two main predictions turn out to be true? 1) Will SDSU build a new stadium? and 2) Is USD going to beat SDSU in the DakotaDome this season? Even though some posters seem to be having fun with the obvious -- the need for a new stadium with an artificial playing surface -- keep in mind SDSU is well on its way toward ground breaking and construction. The other prediction...well let's just see what happens.

To others, it apparently is not. We are a 24-27 point underdog. Of course victory is not likely (I thought that went without saying), but it is possible.
