Just applied to USD this week. Pretty excited, and hopefully I get accepted. Does anyone have any advice leading up to the first day of college? I understand this was not sports related...but I am so excited!

Welcome Benson! Don't worry about how it will all come about, you will be fine. You will have a great experience at USD and you will be well prepared for the career of your choice.

Welcome 14benson! My experience at USD was great and one of the fun parts was watching a lot of great USD sports teams and players!! Still get to some Coyote events even though 400 miles away and follow them on Midco/other TV/computer as well as radio. Excited to have Coyote basketball teams coming to Rapid City in December!!

I'm a senior right now, and I know I would have done a few things differently my freshman year:
Go to class. Attendance policies aren't all that strict. I got my worst grades my freshman year because I was incredibly lazy and would sit around my dorm room playing video games instead of just going to class.
Leave your dorm room open. You should try to meet as many people as you can while you are in the dorms, so be as open and friendly as possible. Then move off campus as soon as you can. It's too expensive, and having an actual apartment is much nicer.
Get your books online, the bookstore will charge you much, much more than Amazon will.
Spread that Coyote pride! This last week I berated the groups of people who I saw on their way leaving the Dome, try to persuade as many people as you can into being legitimate Coyote Crazies! I'm sure that during your time on campus you'll have the pleasure of seeing greater teams than I have, and I hope you enjoy it to the fullest.
College really isn't that tough, especially during your first year or two (glorified high school classes). Give a good effort and I'm sure you'll do just fine. I never studied in high school, or my first couple years of college, but things do begin to require a very real effort as you move along.
What's your intended major btw? Also, where are you coming from? USD accepts almost everyone (but still somehow has higher standards than the other major state school), so I wouldn't worry so long as you got at least an 18 on your ACT

Well, I am going to be a middle school teacher...so my major will be elementary education. I got a 20 on my ACT, and it was because I was nervous...etc. So I am taking it on the 28th this month. I live in Northern Iowa so I live a little under 4 hours away. My GPA is 3.27 and hopefully will graduate with a 3.3.
I like the idea of living on campus, but if I find an apartment that would be nice.

Retaking the ACT doesn't hurt, might help you out with some potential scholarship offers too. Living on campus is mandatory your first two years (unless you claim to live with your parents, not quite an option for you), then after that I'd suggest finding a place off campus. There don't seem to many upper classmen at all living on campus, none that I've ever known at least. It's cheaper, and you have waaaaay more freedom.
