Wondering now that Yankton didn't make it to the Dome if next year there will be a petition to create a 8th class just for them. Whoever finishes last in the ESD will be the second team in this class, ensuring Yankton the best chance of winning a championship. If Yankton is the worst team in the ESD then the worst 11B team will be moved up to play Yankton in the Dome... Poking a little fun here, but since Yankton was the one spearheading the 11 AA and 11 AAA mess thought it would be the next argument. At least I heard Yankton was the main one behind the ridiculous amount of classes that we have. Give everyone a medal and make sure Yankton wins a state title, that about sums up our high school class system now days. But then again I don't see why we have more than 2 classes in 9 man and 3 in 11 man. go back to way it was before we gave a medal to everyone. What next are they going to create 2 more classes of basketball?

I don't have the numbers, but I'm assuming the SF schools had higher enrollments in the Max Hawk days as well. Yet somehow we were still dominant. It was inevitable he would retire and I suppose it was inevitable that eventually the numbers game would catch up to us. In my opinion, we should've stayed in the highest class a little longer. Clearly SF has had a good run but these things are cyclical. At this point, when Yankton gets good again, the best we can do is get 1st in the 2nd class. Woohoo.....

If the Yanktons, Mitchells, etc don't feel they can compete with the big boys, they should go down to 11A and play the Madisons, West Central, etc. No need for 4 11-man classes. And also no need for 3-9 man classes as it should be reduced to on 2. 3 times during the 2013 regular season, the #1 ranked 9AA team at the time was beaten by a 9B team.

I'm in Watertown and I don't think Yankton takes all the blame ...Watertown's administration fully supported the extra class too. I was disappointed Watertown supported the change. I admit I lost some interest in following the team as I had in past years. If we were playing for the top title, I would be going to the Dome. As it is, I'm going to listen on the radio.

What I always think is commical is how everyone always immediately says we should only have two nine man classes. Why? It makes no sense. Here's the breakdown by class:
11AAA-8 teams, everyone makes the playoffs 11AA-10 teams, two don't make the playoffs 11A-16 teams, everyone makes the playoffs 11B-24 teams, 16 make the playoffs 9AA-28 teams, 16 make the playoffs 9A-27 teams, 16 make the playoffs 9B-28 teams, 16 make the playoffs
I have heard so many people bring up having less 9-man classes. In 4 11-man classes, there are 58 teams, only 10 teams don't make the playoffs. In 3 9-man classes, there are 83 teams, 35 teams don't make the playoffs.
Yes, some said that 3 #1 9AA teams got beat by a 9B school. So what. Sometimes that happens. Some clases have teams that may be a little better. Some teams are just overrated too. #1 teams get beat all the time, not just in 9AA.
Some of the 11-man classes have terrible teams with losing records in the playoffs. In 9-man it is pretty rare to even get in the playoffs with a losing record.
