Also, I think the team this year is going to be a lot stronger and have more cohesion than they did last year. I think Coach K will find what works with this group, especially if she doesn’t have to deal with all the injuries that plagued the team last year.

If you go back to the press conferences and news articles at the time, Dawn Staley was definitely willing to come to Vermillion for the second game. However, Covid happened. That changed the landscape for a lot of teams, for a lot of what they were able to do schedule-wise. Remember, the first time we played South Carolina, we played them closer than almost anyone in the nation. On their court. Coach Staley saw us as a quality opponent, worthy of a game on our court.

Currently, the WNIT has a 64-team format. This new WBIT is going to be inviting only 32 teams. Therefore, 32 fewer teams will be invited to play quality postseason tournaments. Smaller programs will lose out on opportunities.

To be honest, the earlier you start to build a relationship with a player, the more they will follow your program and see the personality of your team, rather than just the most recent wins and losses records. Hannah had coaches interested in her as early as eighth grade, her first year in AAU - they try to build a rapport with a player through her AAU coach. You can win a players heart by having her connect emotionally with players on the team, following them, cheering for them… because she feels valued by that team. This is not so much with the very top players, because they already get or know they will get a lot of attention. But this is more for those hidden gem players.

Another news nugget: Rogers High School (Hannah’s high school) just announced Mike Pomroy as its new head boys basketball coach!

Update: Hannah‘s wedding is in June, and shortly after that time, Andy will begin the preparation for a stem cell transplant. While this is a very rigorous, involved, and scary procedure, we are very hopeful that the outcome will be positive for his health. Keep the prayers coming, please. Thank you!

She can definitely enter the transfer portal. She would not receive immediate eligibility though, because she already got that one time. She could potentially apply for a waiver if she had cause. But you can enter the transfer portal multiple times. There are players in the portal who have transferred two or more times already….

It goes back to somewhere around eight years ago, when they started allowing athletes to be on campus all summer. Before that, they had extremely limited windows of practice the time during the summer.

Stanford’s best player, Cameron Brink, missed the past week with the flu. And you could tell last night that she was still sick. I’ve also heard that a few other girls on the team had it as well, but not as bad as Cameron. That being said, Ole Miss played with passion, and used some high screens. Probably learned them from playing us last year. 😂

Actually, it’s 60 days from selection Sunday. At least, according to the NCAA website. Concerning graduation, women basketball players attend classes in the summer from the time they show up in June before their freshman year. The NCAA requires you to be in summer school for at least your first two summers. They also have a minimum number of credits that they have to take every semester. That’s why a lot of women players are able to graduate in 3 years and then grad transfer for their fourth year of eligibility.

From what I've seen, a good amount of West Virginia fans understand the move, but are very mad about the way she did it. Hearing reports that the team wasn't even told by her and they found out on the bus while no coaches were with the team. I've always heard rumors about how Dawn was behind closed doors, but always put on a good face in public. The West Virginia girls played Friday midday. The rumors about Coach P being the MN coach didn’t start until that evening, and were quashed shortly thereafter. This was to give Dawn time to talk to her team. She did not leave them on the bus to ride home alone. She did not fly to Minnesota until Saturday afternoon. Use some common sense - She is classier than that.

If Kyah is close to graduating, she could finish up her credits now or over the summer, and go to Minnesota as a grad transfer.

6’1 Frannie Hottinger just entered the portal, out of Lehigh. She is a Minnesota girl, who put up very good numbers in the post for the past 4 years.
