The box score shows a very weak performance. Allowing 50% shooting (53% on 3s) would indicate the Yotes must have given up on the zone, and the man.

I watched the game online until about 3 minutes left in the second half. I think the yotes will agree it wasnt their best game.....
Offensively, when teams take away Mr. Gruis we struggle because the D doesnt have to worry about the big load inside. So essentially its up to our guards to create for themselves and outside of Bos I didnt see many guys doing that with good decisions. I like what Joey has put in offensively, we had a lot of wide OPEN shots created off of screening action. The simple fact is we missed a lot of wide open looks. We were down 9 early in the first half and I think Wyoming missed on 3 or 4 possessions in a row. The problem was so did USD but the shots we got where a lot better than that of Wyomings.
Defensively I think Joey is looking to just contain the ball, there was a lot of switching and soft hedges on ball screens. The concepts are fine I just think the intensity on D wasnt there last night. Wyoming got a lot of easy buckets....
Wyoming is a good MWC team, and the MWC has improved greatly this year.... I personally think South Dakota will be fine once conference starts. We have a lot of new guys, its a different look. I still have great optimism and excitement for the year ahead. The broadcasters also said some really nice things about Joey, that he handled practice and shoot around really well the night and day before the game and that he has the makings of a good coach.
Us as fans all we see is wins and losses, but realistically this is a transition year again. Tough spot for Joey because everyone wants him to win right away but it takes time to impose a new philosphy on a team. I know the coaching staff and players work their butts off for the red and white jerseys so I encourage everyone not to judge USD by their non-conference schedule but by how they are at the end of year when the SUmmit comes to a close and the tourney begins.

kioatee has a good view of the Wyoming game. I watched in on Root TV (Directv). The cold shooting was really the issue, not to mention this was a good Wyoming team. They had plenty of opportunities, just missed a lot of shots. I think being on the road this much, and not getting in a shooting rythmn. I was thinking about that same stretch, I believe, it was 42-33 Wyoming, where we had a lot of good opportunities on offense and we were playing good defense and rebounding, but just couldn't hit the open shot to cut the lead any further.
I will be interested to see how we do in the rematch, hoping we shoot better.
Pomlee had some good minutes, and I can see he will add to our team once he gets acclimated. Still waiting to get Thoseby going, I've heard he is a good shooter, but isn't getting a lot of shots and is missing most.
Although the expectation is to build on the success of last year, it is still going to take awhile to mesh with all the new players. Just what Joey James said on media day. I do believe, there is a lot to work with though, and count me excited about the season.

I do believe, there is a lot to work with though, and count me excited about the season. I agree with mostly all of what is being said about the game. I actually though defensively we were not that bad. This was an extremely athletic team and we did a pretty good job of protecting the middle considering how big and physical they were with Nance and a few other guys down low. We were at least good enough to stay in the game had we knocked down some open looks at 3. There were some bad defensive breakdowns on switches and help side D early, but its not hard to have that happen when you are playing 10-11 guys. It will take some getting used to talking, switching, when to help, etc. I thought Pomlee looked really good on both ends. As good as he looked, Thoseby and Norris looked that bad on both ends unfortunately. Hopefully Thoseby finds his shooting stroke, and Norris becomes more comfortable the more he plays. Norris is undersized and really struggled getting shots up and made 2-3 really bad decisions on dribble drives. Anyways, I think we can play much better and hopefully we play them tighter out in Rapid after making a few adjustments and knocking down some open looks.
