The fizzle at the end of the season was very disappointing, be we definitely beat all preseason expectations. Near unanimous pick to finish last, ended up in 7th. 1-10 and 0-8 in the Valley last year, 4-8 and 3-5 in the Valley this year. Despite meeting and beating expectations, we could have definitely done better. Two games I believe we would have won if we had started Earl all season, two games barely slipped through our fingers right at the end, loss to State because we lost all 4 RBs, and we still beat expectations. I'd say there's little doubt we're heading in the right direction and will make plenty of noise next year with most of our players returning.

I'll probably change my tune later, but i have a hard time right now being overly joyed right now, improvement or not. We HAVE to start turning a corner. There's really no glory in almosts and could-have-beens. You need to get the job done, particularly in close games. Nobody expected the NDSU trip to be a close game, but we had plenty of chances to win 6 or 7 maybe more games. I know joe Glenn will get us going in recruiting, but yeah, just a tough pill to swallow right now. I'll step aside for others to chime in.

If the story is the same next year I'll agree with you, but Joe Glenn undertook a rebuilding project that was pretty clearly going to take a few years before it worked his way. Look at the rest of the season, and not today. We improved greatly. While it's hard to excuse today's completely uninspired performance, it wasn't unexpected after those very tough losses. Had today's game been played a month ago it likely would have been competitive much of the way, and perhaps very deep into the game if we caught a break or two.

Bison fan. I agree. After losing 24 Bison seniors this year, the outcome of next year's contest on the 'Yotes home field could be quite different.

I agree with imenadel bison fan that the Bison will have a few chinks in the armor after losing 24 seniors including their great QB Jensen, most of the DL, etc. I would certainly not under estimate them though--they are always tough. I remember in the 70s before playoffs the Yotes finished with one loss ranked 8th in the nation and the team we lost to was NDSU and of course the team we lost to in our national championship game was the Bison. Good luck to the Bison in the playoffs--they certainly have the team this yr that could repeat. For us Coyote fans the future is bright and the Yotes "only" lost 15 seniors though they will be tough enough to replace!

Keep in mind, the bison are deeper & more talented than a lot of the lower level FBS programs. And more playoff success this year will translate into better recruits...they are loaded up in Fargo.

Joe Glenn took over after losing 20 some seniors and had to literally clean house. Didn't he also kick out about15 guys? He started with nothing. Zilch. And also had to redo the weight training program.
I expected this improvement next year. Without looking at your schedule I'm guessing you'll see 5-6 wins next year, but only because getting to the middle of the conference is much easier than taking that next big step up towards the top. Anything over 6 will be a major improvement. Baby steps Yotes.

Anything over 6 will be a major improvement. Baby steps Yotes. I could see that happening. The two non-conference games I know SD has are Oregon and Montana on the road. Sure hope the AD can schedule something a little easier for the non conference home game. Sounds like Indiana St is the one MVFC team the Yotes won't play next year - tough draw there. Will get UNI, WIU, illinois St, and NDSU at home. SIU, YSU, MSU, and SDSU on the road. Even with big improvements, six wins will be tough. As I have learned watching this conference, injuries and when you play a team can make a big difference.

I'm all for being patient, baby steps, and all, but I know what I saw this year.
As for expectations next year, just improve the young players, recruit like the previous year and get ready to win conference championships and more in 2015.
That being said, we were very close to being 5-3 in the MVFC this year (WIU with Earl at QB, YSU was close). We defeated a ranked opponent on the road, and were very close to a number of others (NAU, YSU, Montana, and with 1 healthy RB, SDSU). I will be content with more progress in 2014, however, I won't be the least bit surprised if we are in the Conf. championship run and/or the playoffs.
There, I said it, because I saw it!

A run at the playoffs is totally what I expect next year. The MVFC title has the massive roadblock that is NDSU, but we will be in the playoff discussion throughout the entire season.

I was all for scheduling a tough OOC schedule in the past, now I am not so sure. Looking at how the MVFC was treated this playoff season it is apparant to me it is more important to have a shiny record with some fluff wins than it is to be a good team from a good conference. Maybe we should load up the OOC schedule with teams from weaker conferences and feast on them rather than the Montana and NAU type teams. Quality wins will come from inside the conference schedule so those will always be there.

Excuse me for overstepping the thread, but a lot of thanks go to the Coyotes Seniors. The progress made this year, would not have been done without leadership from this group. Especially, since from recruitment, the chances of competing for FCS playoffs or conference titles was remote. They put in hard work in a program, that they knew from the beginning would be a building blocks program. Thanks for your work, thanks for the leadership and here's hoping it pays off for you in your future careers!

Not exactly true though, look at Youngstown. 8-4 record with an abysmal OOC schedule, their signature wins being SIU and us, and done for the year. I have no answer as to why our conference was absolutely snubbed despite being the top ranked conference in the FCS, other than the NCAA is just one awful organization.
