I think the Yotes will be in this conference for many year, but I just do not see TSL staying with 9 teams. What are the best, and most likely options for #10?

If the Mountain West doesn't want NMSU I'll take them. They just can't be satisfied in the WAC, and aren't impossibly far from Denver or Tulsa.
UND also would be a good choice if they ever put away their stubborn hate erection for NDSU and joined the rest of the Dakotas.
Any other logical fits to the west have been taken by the Big Sky, so the Summit would have to look East, and I don't know that anyone would want to leave an already stable conference like the Ohio Valley or Sun Belt for us.

I don't think UND is being stubborn. I think there is a practical problem with not having a home for football unless they could get an invite to MVFC -- and that doesn't seem to be in discussion. There's also resistance to UND joining. NDSU is already far enough north and, to a lesser extent, so is SDSU. Oral Roberts left once in an effort to be in a conference with a tighter footprint. They're coming back after the Southern Conference didn't work out well enough and I'm glad they're coming back-- but, what would ORU be thinking if UND was in the Summit League? I think (my speculation) that would have been a negative for ORU.
I have to believe that the lines of communication are open or can be opened between the SL office and UND -- contrary to what some UND fans on message boards may think (a common theme among some UND fans is the SL caused or participated in some sort of double-cross when USD decided to go to the Summit/MVFC after UND commitment to the Big Sky...some UND fans do not like the SL commissioner). But, athletic administrators have to watch dollars and cents. If I was asked for my opinion, I'd say "no" to UND and vote for looking for a school as close as possible to the geographic center of the conference (although I agree with 12345678 on NMSU -- I think NMSU would be a good addition). But, my two-cents worth won't figure in to the decisions and I have to place some trust into the administration of the conference and the member school ADs to make good decisions.

The backbone of this conference is I-29. UND is on I-29. I was just up in Fargo this weekend, Grand Forks isn't that much farther. Besides, teams fly into Fargo and play there one night and Grand Forks the next. This whole travel and footprint deal is overblown.

There is no way that Oral Roberts is driving up to play any of the Dakotas, a flight is a flight. I wonder if the Summit might someday soon basically absorb every worthwhile school from the WAC. That conference is just a defection away from being as good as being independent, so there'd be some incentive for a few members to sell the others down the river and join a more stable Summit.
