This is going to be interesting. Both UND and NDSU have their Head Football Coaching positions open at the exact same time. Which job is coveted the most? Who will end up with the bigger hire? The cold war up in NoDak just got colder (and trust me, it is dang cold up there right now).
I'm betting NDSU wins this battle of the coaching hires. Just more of everything when it comes to the football program. Better conference too.

If UND gets a hire that is near the same level as the hire NDSU gets then that will be a victory for them, NDSU is clearly a much more attractive job. NDSU is in a position where they could attract a candidate with head coach experience at the D1 level, and UND would never attract anyone with head coach experience at the D1 level. Best UND could do is a coordinator from Montana or something.

If they hire him they would have to have been turned down by everybody else. I would pick any SF coach over him. I'm sure this will piss people off, but he is a classless person. USD went from a coach with no character to a coach with it pouring out.

Too much baggage. That's pretty ... umm, gutsy, by Ed.

Rumor is that current NDSU defensive coordinator Chris Klieman will be taking over as head coach once Bohl leaves. If he was as instrumental as he appears to have been in building that top notch defense then I'd say this is a great choice for them.

I think this is a great choice for NDSU, but this is what has happened in the past. Rocky Hagar staying behind when Earl Solmonson went to Montana State. A while ago. I don't see a national search, but could be surprised. Terry Vandervec reported that Calen DeBoer, currently on SIU staff and former USF coach has applied for the UND job.

The most impressive name I've seen apply for the UND job is former Montana coach Robin Pflugard, who took Montana to the semifinals in his second season...then was fired amid a plethora of rape and sexual assault charges involving his players. Seems to be a good coach, but how do you look past that history?

It's the baggage thing again. You do your homework. Ultimately, do you trust the guy?

In case they start taking themselves too seriously up there...........
Mike McFeely, KFGO says:
My favorite UND football coach applicant is the person who lists his current job as "sandwich artist at Subway."

Interesting that DeBoer applied to UND. When Bohl left, DeBoer was the first person I thought of for the job.

However, DeBoer can go into his job interview and remind the UND folks that his former USF NAIA team came into Grand Forks and smacked them around a few years ago.

Would love to see UND hire Chris Klieman (current NDSU DC) as their new head coach. I would get a large bag of popcorn and a 6-pack and watch the entertainment.
