I've never honestly been one to blame refs, officials or umpires for the outcome of games, but WOW the refs were horrible today in Brookings. Against both teams. Never seen anything like that.

This was a tough loss for our Ladies. Once again, our defense was really lacking and the foul trouble we got into didn't help either. As far as officiating, I listened to the post-game radio show on my way home and even Johnston made a comment about the officiating. He said it was hard for both teams to develop a rhythm with all the whistles blowing. I'm still trying to figure out what the call was in the 2nd half when the offensive was called on the Jacks and we shot all alone as if it was a flagrant or a technical.

Watched the game on TV and on that foul it was offensive but the Jack player (I think unintentionally) hit Jackson with an elbow around the throat and head so they reviewed on tape and I think under the rules rightfully ruled it flagrant so she shot the 2 FTs and the Yotes got the ball back. I agree about the fouls and we make more than our fair share of silly fouls--moving screens, I just missed an easy shot or had a turnover so I've got to rush in and foul the player to try and get the ball back right away, over the back on rebounds and I've got 3 or 4 fouls but I'm still going to play really aggressively on D, etc. I also agree about defense. We thought we were playing a man to man D in the first half but were really playing a 3-3--"I'm 3 yds from my player whose beyond the arc and 3 yds from their offensive player down low" so we're too far from doubling low and not defending the arc! I call it the Hope defense--we hope the other team can't make 3s. State made 9 the first half though and Western Ill made 12 of 15 for the game. On the bright side the Lady Yotes never quite, never got discouraged and kept their heads high! They can definitely beat this state team and other good teams if they tighten up a few things and get healthy!! GO YOTES!!!

If you were there, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Absolutely no rhythm to the game. When both coaches are beyond frustrated that they stop yelling and just stand there in disbelief, you know something's wrong. And that's exactly what happened.
